DEEP BREATHS. in ... out ... one. two. three. four. does he know? is there a rumor going 'round? can he tell that he's ... well, DIFFERENT? nick thought the dojo would be safe to clear his head, get his thoughts back in order. maybe even try to MAKE A DECISION about what to do next. but he's leaving class feeling worse than when he arrived — completely out of focus with lingering stares on his back as he packs up. he's GOOD at this, he knows he is. the whole point is to clear the mind, focus on technique, and nick can't even manage THAT. hell — he doesn't even hear johnny come up, or notice everyone else already left.

tough love is a tactic nick expects from johnny, having seen & been on the receiving end himself before. it was DIFFERENT before. nick never allows the outside to come into this sanctuary he built for himself, on the field & in the dojo. this time it stings. ' I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT ME TO SAY. i had a bad day. it won't happen again. ' it's kind, like nick always is, but there's an edge that's foreign to anyone who knows him. just another poke and you'll see the weight of the world on his shoulders crash over him. he's trying to hold it together.
