This weekend has been the fucking besttttt!! Then bumping into Danny in the train station before just stopped it off, absolutely buzzing that I met/saw everyone I wanted too!! Also Jamie blew me a kiss Also Danny said I smelled nice and when I told him it was Britney Spears he said and I quote 'good old Britney eh, you can always rely on Britney' (he was still a tad drunk) he also said he doesn't know where the rumours came from that he was drunk last night cause he defo wasn't (he was) Also told Nick how fucking fuming I was that Lockie is dead and not to get me started on the subject All in all good day really
What do you think about a more serious relationship between John Paul and Lockie?
I would have liked that very much as I’m a huge advocate for bisexual male characters and Lockie was so charming and wonderful. I adored John Paul and Lockie’s friendship and flirtation. They had great chemistry whether just speaking or during their love scenes. And it would have been compelling to see them move beyond a friends with benefits arrangement and for Lockie to truly fall in love with John Paul. Ste also would have become insanely jealous. He knocked the man out for putting a hand on JP’s shoulder, I could only imagine what he’d do if he found out JP was with Lockie for real, unfortunate that he didn’t find out about their affair last summer as it would have been interesting to see his reaction.
However Nick Rhys has left the show, and while I don’t want to believe it, given he’s done an exit interview (which other cast members who have temporarily left (Joe, Mercedes, Freddie etc.) didn’t do) I have to accept that he probably has left for good. And considering how his story ended with creepy Cameron following him in a car, I also have to accept that his end might not have been a pleasant one. He’ll likely end up being the 4th of John Paul’s lovers to die (and 3 out of 4 were murdered), and what makes this one particularly painful is that JP very well could have witnessed Lockie’s last moments and didn’t speak up about what he saw. Factor in the deaths of his family members and I cannot begin to fathom the amount of loss John Paul has suffered in his life. He deserves something good to happen to him, but his love options are severely limited at the moment. I mean what viable choice is really open to him right now? Lockie’s probably dead, Ste and Harry are together, Scott is disgusting (I would riot if they ever went there), and we don’t know for sure yet what James’ orientation is (and even if he’s gay, there’s no way he’s “the one”). So Hollyoaks either has to have a current male character explore his sexuality or create a new character to play JP’s next lover. And the show has made me so pessimistic, I don’t foresee the next guy being the great love of JP’s life, especially considering the epic relationships he’s already had. The man would have to be incredibly special and the writers would need time to develop him as an individual before coupling him off with JP. It’s much easier when you’re working with already established characters.
I think at the moment the writers are more interested in exploring John Paul’s career, his family life and his friendship with Sally St. Claire. Which is perfectly fine. I realize John Paul falls in love easily but he doesn’t always have to be in a relationship. And as I said before, he’ll likely need a lot of healing time after the events of Christmas.
My only real wish when it comes to John Paul’s next beau if for Ste to get jealous. My chief complaint with McHay is while JP was always putting his heart on the line for Ste, towards the end Ste didn’t do enough to show JP how much he loves him and cares for him. Ste being envious would go a long way to demonstrate that he actually gives a damn. It would also be sweet if Ste could be there for JP as a friend, as supposedly they’re best mates. Ste and Doug still maintained their friendship after Stendan became a proper couple, so I don’t see why Ste and JP can’t. I miss them on screen together, even if they never get back together romantically again.
