As soon as he got the chance, Nick took Juniper aside to talk. ❝You think you can stay out of trouble for one day?❞ His words were teasing, but held some worry in them. He watched her expression carefully, searching to see if this had been anything serious. ❝You know you can talk to me about this, right?❞ He added. The two of them had arrived at Redstar together, so they had a common bond. Trust was something else entirely. He wanted to have someone there that he could trust, and he hoped that Juniper felt the same.

“  you  leave  the  scene  for  a  hot  second  and  the  next  thing  you  know  lizzo  has  a  boyfriend  and  the  queen  of  the  underworld  is  married  to  some  ratty  director  .  this  is  unbelievable  ,  “  nick  and  bianca  had  never  had  a  sexual  relationship  (  somehow  )  .  perhaps  they  were  both  just  too  psychotic  to  really  get  there  when  they  were  too  busy  fucking  with  everyone  else  ,  still  ,  his  disappointment  and  sadness  almost  looks  real  .  almost  .

       as  usual  ,  he  didn’t  have  much  better  than  to  do  besides  stroll  through  like  looking  for  ample  opportunity  to  be  awful  .  technically  it  wasn’t  his  fault  ,  he  couldn’t  feel  bad  ...  he  could  barely  feel  anything  .  he  wasn’t  numbed  by  trauma  or  emotion  ,  he  simply  had  never  quite  developed  those  little  hairpin  triggers  others  had  ,  developmental  milestones  missed  and  replaced  with  charisma  and  mockery  of  human  emotion  .  his  lips  pull  up  in  a  grin  at  the  off  the  cuff  chance  meeting  between  he  &  his  ex  -  friend  .  “  wow  ,  this  is  wild  .  i  was  actually  just  thinking  about  you  and  here  you  are  ,  “  announced  with  pride  and  glamour  ,  brown  eyes  sparkling  in  the  day  light  with  beautiful  irony  ...  pretty  things  could  be  ugly  too  .  “  still  hung  up  on  me  sleeping  with  your  ex  or  have  you  realised  i  basically  did  you  a  favour  ?  she  obviously  didn’t  love  you  that  much  .  “  he’s  serious  ,  arms  crossed  ,  open  to  accepting  belated  gratitude  from  the  other  for  his  public  service  .

       when  nick  was  bored  then  he  had  a  nose  for  trouble  ,  able  to  sniff  out  insecurity  or  drama  from  a  mile  away  ,  a  legendary  shit  stirrer  if  you  will  .  when  an  ample  opportunity  provided  itself  ,  fell  into  his  lap  or  even  if  he  had  to  put  in  a  small  effort  ,  he  would  be  sure  to  locate  it  and  stick  his  two  cents  in  .  luckily  this  one  seemed  to  amble  along  nicely  and  when  he  spotted  enzo  ,  he  already  had  the  promotional  material  for  a  new  show  up  on  his  film  .  as  they  both  stood  idly  ,  some  type  of  event  for  athletes  that  was  less  than  exciting  running  ,  “  oh  man  ,  it’s  crazy  what  happens  out  here  in  the  hills  and  people  just  let  it  slide  ,  “  said  in  a  tone  suggesting  some  kind  of  genuine  disappointment  or  empathy  ,  he  takes  a  small  sigh  and  then  ,  “  my  phone  has  been  blowing  up  ...  i  was  meant  to  audition  for  this  show  but  i  guess  i  dodged  a  bullet  ‘cus  i  hear  that  the  two  leads  have  all  this  drama  and  are  reconciling  ...  but  you  know  what  the  craziest  part  is  ?  “  he  asks  ,  leading  question  ,  leaning  in  just  enough  that  the  other  might  be  able  to  sneak  a  glimpse  at  his  phone  .  “  i  hear  she  has  a  whole  ass  man  and  she’s  out  here  fucking  around  and  the  poor  dude  doesn’t  even  know  .  “

       nicholas  lehoy  was  an  acquired  taste  ,  a  bit  like  marmite  ,  except  even  worse  .  unfortunately  ,  sometimes  when  he  had  his  eye  on  somebody  ,  they  were  simply  unable  to  escape  his  ever  present  attention  ...  most  disengaged  from  him  ,  he  bored  easily  of  people  that  did  not  source  him  with  entertainment  or  at  least  fleeting  fantasy  of  being  more  than  just  another  dull  face  .  dilys  was  different  -  not  for  her  beauty  ,  looks  or  even  first  presenting  persona  ,  nick  had  simply  latched  onto  something  inside  of  her  that  he  was  unable  to  full  exploit  and  so  it  had  began  ,  months  spanning  into  synchrony  with  the  path  to  hell  being  paved  with  awful  intentions  .  “  there  she  is  ,  my  beautiful  girlfriend  ,  “  he  coos  with  the  feigned  dripping  affection  of  only  a  mad  man  ,  glint  in  dark  eyes  all  you  needed  to  behold  to  know  he  was  up  to  no  good  .
