K, Lemme explain…
I got inspired to revamp this year long wip after seeing art from @jollyart (amazing artwork) and I drew my (now scrapped) interpretation of Hanabi and Konahamaru’s relationship.
At the time, I thought it’d be funny if they had a drama soap opera type of romantic inside joke that only they found funny (inspired by Sigurd and Ayame from Fruits Basket) cause they felt like little trolls to me and I imagined their relationship to be two high status high pressure kids blowing off some steam by being the most dumbass versions of themselves together cause they wouldn’t judge each other for it.
Now when I think of them— knowing that Konahamaru has grown to be more responsible and Hanabi has to also run a clan— I interpret their relationship to be more similar to Nick Carraway and Jordan Baker from the BROADWAY MUSICAL version of The Great Gatsby as I find Nick and Konahamaru + Jordan and Hanabi to be similar based on my limited knowledge of Boruto.
In the play, Jordan is someone who likes partying and being free from the constructs of marriage. She briefly fall for Nick but starts to back away when she witnesses the hellhole that is her friend Daisy’s married life/affair life. Additionally, she is a morally grey person, desiring to be right rather than being virtuous/ avoiding blame.
Nick meanwhile is a man who values virtue, yet is passive to events around him, even the ones that he pushes— like that affair between Gatsby and Daisy. Jordan and Nick have good banter but Nick seems to let things run a bit too fast without him noticing (sorry that was a bit off topic).
Main point is, Nick and Jordan have good banter with each other while still being layered complex people with weight behind their playful words and that’s kinda how I see Hanabi and Konahamaru if they were realistically in a relationship
