The Racist Fandom Starter Pack

A canon interracial couple exists "I just don't see their chemistry" proceeds to fanon ship [insert white character] instead, claiming they have more of a connection.

"It's not their skin color, I just don't like them for some reason, btw, here are my top 5 [insert white actors] I think are better suited"

"Not everything is about race". They say, as they prop up every white character over any character of color.

Character of color is such a bad friend for having opinions of their own/taking care of themselves instead of putting their friend [insert white character] first.

A character of color is morally ambiguous or a villain, gets redemption arc. "They're awful and haven't been condemned enough of their crimes". Stans [insert white characters] who did the exact same crimes or was a villain who's redemption arc is praised.

"Can't believe that character of color had the nerve not to die as a selfless sacrifice for [insert white character]".

"POC actress/actor is too ethnic and they'd ruin the character".

"I haven't seen racism in the fandom therefore it isn't there".

"Character of color is the main character of the show sure, but let's be honest, everyone came for [insert white character]

Just watched Good Omens 3 on DramasQ without ever having an Amazon Prime subscription and I never felt prouder to not be supporting g*n0c1de.

Also the part where Jesus learned to find the Lady was cut off at various points by gambling app commercials and there has never been anything more glorious istg

PPS I’ve been way more grateful for the existence of fan artists before this, but the fact that they left out the part where Crowley got a heaven makeover which subsequently got drawn out in the most beautiful of ways by so many in the fandom was one of the remaining bits of icing that hasn’t been stuck to the box while the cake was knocked around in transit

What if an ymbrine, theoretically, turns out abusive? Like, ymbrines aren't some selected few that are the best at doing their job, they're just anyone born with the necessary abilities, which means there are all kinds of ymbrines. Some of them must be shitty people, or unstable mentally, or even just someone who becomes dangerous further along the story...

And with how dissolved peculiardom initially was, there's a big chance that if an ymbrine DOES suck at doing her job, the children will just end up trapped with her, unable do object to anything or even run away, except leaving into the puter past.

I mean, there're lote of ymrines, something like that definetly occured somewhere.

Nick Carraway had sex with a man in GG? What? How did I miss this? I thought he was in love with J Gatz, but like, how did I miss this?

It’s never directly stated, of course, but it’s very easy to read into it. It’s at the end of chapter 2. Tom takes Nick to a party at the Wilsons’, and Myrtle invites her sister and neighbors, the McKees. Mr. McKee is described as pale and feminine, and “in the ‘artistic game,’” all of which are descriptions that are frequently coded queer. Mr. McKee and Nick drunkenly leave the party together, Mr. McKee invites him to lunch, fade to black, and then Nick is standing next to an almost naked Mr. McKee in bed.  Literally a fade to black. The transition between the scenes is an ellipses.

“All right,” I agreed, “I’ll be glad to (join you for lunch).”

 … I was standing beside his bed and he was sitting up between the sheets, clad in his underwear, with a great portfolio in his hands.

 “Beauty and the Beast… Loneliness… Old Grocery Horse…Brook’n Bridge…”

 Then I was lying half asleep in the cold lower level of the Pennsylvania Station, staring at the morning Tribune, and waiting for the four o’clock train.

It’s not much to go on, but between the way Mr. McKee is coded and the way the whole novel is about Nick’s obsession with Gatsby, and the fact that the scene doesn’t otherwise contribute to the book, a lot of people read it as Nick having slept with Mr. McKee. Personally, I find the ellipses the most telling. It indicates that Nick is blacking out and loosing time, sure, but it’s the only place where Fitzgerald uses an ellipses to indicate that. He doesn’t do it when Nick loses an hour earlier at the party, and he doesn’t do it when he loses time before waking up in Pennsylvania Station. The implication is that something bigger was ellipse-d out.

Like a lot of students, I had to read Gatsby in high school. It didn’t even occur to me to ask if Nick was bi. I just read him as bi and was quietly pleased. But someone else asked the teacher outright if the two had slept together, and she insisted that they hadn’t. She kept talking about how no one ever asked that in her classes until “the last few years,” and that you didn’t have to read it as gay, just two sad drunk men bonding over lost dreams (lost dreams being a major theme of the book.) I didn’t know words like “bi erasure” in high school, and I wasn’t confidant enough to argue for my interpretation, but it seriously bummed me out and kind of ruined the rest of the book for me.
