i just noticed many of my favorite ships that ive had over the years feel like the same flavor. warm, eccentric, and sometimes heavily anxious/low self esteem. own self problems and needs or seemingly too different but also the damn good chemistry somehow, and something that brings them together. good flavor.

bubbline gives me serious nickyann vibes i gotta say it even though it's two human middle schoolers vs a vampire and bubblegum person basic personality wise they are very similar to me just in a different font

thinking about Nicky and Pepper Ann's dynamic again:

I was surprised that anyone shipped them, but they literally have "platonic angst" in many ways and are both the heart of the show & I would personally argue, have the strongest dynamic out of everyone in the whole show

Nicky at her core, is a giver & a realist, but like Pepper Ann wants to escape. She's Pepper Ann with an "intellectual" coat of paint. She cares about the approval of others but in someways she is a more optimistic of Pepper Ann, believing the good in everyone. However, Nicky is also very contradicting- untrusting (believing others while good intentioned, could pull the rug from under her), subtle. Is not an openly jealous/envious person. Nicky looks inward.

Pepper Ann, on the other hand is more pessimistic- but also very trusting, stubborn, and is often jealous of Nicky. Pepper Ann looks outward.

Pepper Ann in some ways, is afraid of Nicky spiraling and Nicky believes she takes a lot for granted and is often too stuck in her ways (probably because she associates her neurotic personality with some of her own negative personality traits, maybe some projection)

Pepper Ann can often be crueler to Nicky when this jealousy manifests

It's certainly The Dynamic, the negative parts at least - but you can never view them as super toxic as they are so well intentioned, and in a pretty lighthearted show it's hard not to take them seriously. Their dynamic screams "earnest yet not", and in terms of romantic shipping it's one of the only pairs I can take at face value, something that is open ended, something that is deceptively simple & very emotionally raw
