i wrote this for @nico-ramirez-no1-defender and it taught me i cannot write nico very well at all so please forgive me for any mistakes alright??? HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUBY!!!
Vida drags Nico outside to go touch some grass and see the sun and every time he dramatically talks like he's in the 17 the century. ' is this ... the sun?' ' oh morrow know my name ' ' is that a cow over yonder?’ * in the city*
unpopular-opinion-that’s-not-actually-unpopular time:
I don’t ship Clancy and Nico...? like, at all? even in the best case scenario where Clancy was given the opportunity to heal from all his trauma and change fundamentally as a person, I still wouldn’t ship it. they don’t work together. they’d still very much give off a toxic, power-imbalance dynamic and I don’t like it
I think it’s because Nico is too soft? don’t get me wrong, I love soft characters paired with hardened characters who are massive dickheads, but the problem for me is that Clancy has aimed a lot of that mistreatment towards Nico. he manipulated and used Nico throughout the entirety of the second book. Clancy used Nico’s love for him against him, and I don’t think Clancy claiming to have changed while Nico’s is still the same person fundamentally will ever function healthily
maybe it’s just because I hate that kind of ship. where the abusive enemy of a more timid and soft character gets to claim they’ve changed and the softer character goes waltzing into their arms. even if they have changed, it’s usually not by enough, and knowing Clancy... yeah, I don’t think him and Nico would ever work out together in a semi-healthy fashion if Nico keeps having the same temperament and self-confidence he’s always been shown to have
I think the only way Nico and Clancy could ever work out is if they reached a similar midway point to what Ruby and Clancy had. that being where the victim of the previous abuse holds the abusive party accountable for their actions, levels their playing fields, and makes it clear that if the previously abusive party attempts that kind of shit again, they’re gonna feel the consequences of it. and then, of course, if Clancy also took the steps to change himself and learn how to properly care for other people, but I honestly can’t see Nico or Clancy being able to do either of these things with where they’re at currently
Nico needs som love
