Stormy Faye The Christian Runaway Reposted from @africanproverbspage (@get_regrann) - The Germans have a proverb that says, “ When A Dove Begins To Associate With Crows Its Feathers Remain White But Its Heart Grows Black. Often times we underestimate the influence by a company or an association. The kind of company you keep determines the kind of transformation you will have. Evil company corrupts good morals. Wisdom rubs off on those who walk with the wise. Conversely, foolishness transfers onto those who walk with the foolish. It is not about how strong you are, if you keep a bad company, it’s only a matter of time that you will begin to be influenced by them. As a matter of fact, it is easier to be influenced negatively that it is to be influenced positively. That is why is requires extra effort to conquer a bad habit and less effort to be influenced by a bad habit. The interesting thing is that we ourselves often don’t realize the influence on our lives until we are exposed to a different environment. And the reason is because the influence occurs in a subtle and slow fashion. Stormy Faye The Christian Runaway Reposted from @africanproverbspage (@get_regrann) - The building block of any nation is the home. A corrupt nation is a reflection of a corrupt home. Character they say begins at home. The values people learn at home is what they show when they are leaders. What happens at home is not a private matter. Or shall I say it is a private matter which has a public impact? In other words, the influence of the home extends beyond it. So if you are a parent, remember that if you are not bringing up your children in the right way, you are contributing to the ruin of your country. A nation in ruin must start building by looking into the values of its homes. It must create the environment that will foster trust and a healthy relationship within the home. It must encourage parents to be good role-models to their children. It must restructure its laws and acts to promote cordiality and respect among home communities. It must punish injustice and frown on disrespect. Above all, the leaders must lead the way in how they relate to and raise their families. It is a collective responsibility. Stormy Faye The Christian Runaway Reposted from @africanproverbspage (@get_regrann) - Ignore the simple advise in this proverb and you do so to your own disservice. We live in a world in which when you are always gentle and quiet, people like to bully you around. They will take your leniency to be weakness. And unless you show people that your being quiet does not mean you’re dumb or your being gentle does not mean you’re a doormat, people will take advantage of you. I have a personal philosophy which says, “I don’t mind being thought as a fool, but I do mind being treated as a fool”. The snake is a very wise animal, hence the old saying “as wise as a serpent”. To be wise in this sense is to have an understanding of people and situation and to know what is best to do. Snakes only bite people out of self-defense when they feel their life is threatened. Otherwise, they are gentle creatures minding their own business. In the same way, our default approach in life should be gentleness, but when people want to exploit or mistreat us, we must stand up for ourselves. Humility does not mean you let people walk over you or push you around. If anything, that is timidity! There is no fear in humility. Humility is not weakness. Humility is strength under control. Remember, “A man can't ride your back unless it's bent” (MLK Jr). Stormy Faye The Christian Runaway Reposted from @africanproverbspage (@get_regrann) - In the construction of a building you cannot have the superstructure before the foundation. The superstructure is supported on the foundation. That said, the foundation is important for many reasons. The main reason is that it provides strength and stability to the building. A shoddy work in the foundation, puts the whole building at risk. And if any mistake in the foundation is not addressed, it compounds (gets worse as you go up). A bad foundation is no foundation. It's like a horn without the head: it's hollow. And according to the Webster dictionary if something is described as hollow, it means it has "no real value or meaning. That is, lacks substance. Alas, many things we do are hollow. They are horns without heads. This is because instead of first ensuring we have good foundation, we focus our energies on the superstructure. We have reversed the correct order. We have put the cart before the horse. No wonder, we have more books and less wisdom; more possessions and less contentment; tall egos and short tempers; more medicine and less wellness; more treaties and less peace; more creeds and less morality; great visions and narrow viewpoints and more social media and less real relationship. It's a travesty of success!
