Night Gem
night gem characters (1/??) — aera
aera was alone, aligned with the world, exactly where she belonged. everything was familiar and even in the darkest reaches of night, her feet knew where to go. she was home. the forest was alive, spilling with music, breathing along with the beat of her heart. a choir of insects hummed while an expanse of white trees danced in the mist, and aera swirled through them, her long hair billowing. she glanced around to admire the scenery and realized the trees had no leaves at all. white birds lined each branch as far as the eye could see, their feathers shimmering beneath a brilliant moon. — @erosianexile

It was becoming apparent there was more to Ynas than Samies and routines. On the outside, Aera marched along to the commune’s rhythm, but on the inside, she was out of sync… and she knew she was not alone.

Our culture is focused on socializing, but listening is undervalued. Conversation is encouraged, but people are not taught to consider their words carefully, or to manage the volume and timing of their speech. The stimulation is overwhelming, and someone who is sensitive might feel out of step.

Aaaa! So cute. My friend is halfway through my book, Night Gem - and sent me this picture. I’m excited and nervous to hear her review. *heart flutters* And this picture is amazing. The cat’s coloring matches the book! This is the same friend who took the photo of me that I use on my Amazon Author Page. Her work is here: EdenHillPhotography
My first book just came out on Amazon!
“We are all the same,” chants the mob in the Village Square. Aera is not the same but doesn’t know why. In the walled-off commune of Ynas, she is protected from the dangers outside yet feels imprisoned. Knowledge is closely guarded, and passion is tabooed.
Haunted by nightmares in alien tongues, Aera senses she is destined for more than drudgery in Ynas. She finds solace in a powerful mentor who teaches her forbidden music and ancient martial arts. Aera’s defiance attracts the young prodigy Cyrrus, who is determined to rule the planet of Oreni. While others fall prey to his influence, Aera penetrates his many veils and joins him in unraveling hidden cultures, forbidden languages and altered history. Through primeval pathways and arcane relics, they enter a shared dreamscape of duplicitous characters from distant lands revealing a secret that could destroy their world.
This Boundary Will Not Bind Us is the first installment in the Night Gem series. It begins when Aera is a child, and follows her path through the mystical twists of an unknown destiny. More than a simple story, Erica Xenne invites readers into her multi-layered universe of complex characters and celestial forces engaged in a deadly opera.
