NIGHT FRIENDS, RAIN EDITION! We has a tropical storm (thankfully not hurricane) scare here recently in FL. It rained nonstop for days & the dogs still needed walking. Here’s what I spotted one night. _ Sleeping creatures trying to hide from the rain. Some butterflies and a green anole lizard. But the frogs and toads were out in full force hunting for food. It has been quite dry just before this. Currently, thousands of tiny toadlets cover the property having dropped their tails and climbed onto land. Toads pictured are Eastern Spadefoot and Southern Toad. Frog on palmetto is squirrel tree frog. Unsure of the one on the ground, maybe a bronze frog? Yellow butterfly is a type of sulfur. Orange In is a hackberry emperor butterfly. 🐸 🦋 _ Out little nonvenomous Florida water snake friend was hunting above our manmade pond on the ferns. And came across a small Gulf Hammock rat snake also hunting. You might think you recognize it as a gray rat snake, but it can only be found in a small area of Florida. Many consider this snake to be an intergrade between the gray rat snake and the yellow rat snake. 🐍 _ 😡😡😡A friendly reminder that all negative “burn it with fire” comments are not tolerated on my posts. Please do not tag you friend that has a fear of the creatures I post to upset them! I share these things for others that might never see them. To help an appreciation of wildlife grow. Not to perpetuate irrational fears that someone already has.
