Nightlight is an early Daycare Attendant model created during an experimentational period when Sun and Moon were initially being fashioned into two separate animatronics.
Stationed in New Orleans, his Pizza Plex offered a year-round Mardi Gras theme. Nightlight and his Sun were still in charge of the daycare, but were also part of the broader attractions at the plex as well, including a parade where they had their own jester themed float.
Their bodies were designed to light up in a rainbow of colors, including their faceplates. Therefore, their voice boxes were placed upon their chests to keep room for the lighting element inside their heads and ensure their voices weren't muffled.
One day during a hurricane, the power at the Pizza Plex shorted out briefly before the backup generator kicked on while Nightlight was in the middle of charging. The temporary jolt to his system caused damage to his voice box, rendering him unable to talk without the speaker screeching like audio feedback.
He checks in with parts and service, expecting to be fixed, but FazCo has been looking for an excuse to phase out older models in favor of the newer, easier to maintain models.
Nightlight is then transferred to a warehouse in Texas where he believes he is going to be fixed. Rather, it is a regional storage facility where animatronics are taken to be pieced out and used for spare parts.
It is here that he meets Synodic, another Moon animatronic who gives him the nickname Nightlight due to the fact that he glows.
They become fast friends, but when another animatronic known as King begins to take a special interest in Nightlight, Synodic springs the idea of running away from the facility. Nightlight is hesitant at first but eventually agrees to go with Synodic when he realizes that he isn't actually going to be fixed in this facility.
While on the run, the two are encountered by two (technically three) other escaped animatronics and their human companion Izzie. This is where they learn about Equinox and his haven out in the Mojave desert. The two hitch a ride with the others and make their way there.
Upon arrival, the two initially stick to themselves, but Nightlight is eager to make new friends in this new place. He slowly but surely ventures out to meet the others, and when he lays eyes on Dior for the first time he is immediately enamored by them and develops a massive crush.
He's too shy to approach Dior for a long time, but he tries on occasion to make a connection. Synodic is the only one who knows he's harboring this crush, though Nightlight gets the feeling Synodic is maybe not as supportive as they try to seem, and he's not really sure why...
