I can't help but correct them,
the word falls from my lips,
or grates past my teeth,
one word, two letters:
he.

A year had passed since Sakul's visit to Denmark, where he'd met Bjorn before the graveyard where Ryker's body had come to rest. It had been a rocky year to struggle on through, and coming to grips with the truth had not been easy for both Sakul and Bjorn.
The two had grown closer, however; one of the few things Bjorn could say he truly felt good about. Bjorn had found himself a steady job, and now he could visit with more frequency the lighthouse where Sakul lived. It was a beautiful sight to be sure, despite it's heavy connotations so Bjorn did his best to enjoy himself in the company of the younger man.
Today was a special day - September 17th - for it was Sakul's birthday. Bjorn had flown out from his flat in Denmark to visit and celebrate the occasion. Now he stood at the door, the familiar emotion of nostalgia letting loose a fluttering of butterflies in his stomach. He knocked twice, and took a step back.
Sakul answered the door and seemed surprised to see him there, though he was happy enough to let him in. Bjorn smiled down at Sakul, and followed the other into the living room.
"Happy birthday, Sakul."
Sakul turned around, and smiled feebly. "Thank you,"
The two embraced. Bjorn pulled away to reach into his pocket. "I brought somethin' fer ya."
"What? You didn't need to..."
"I know. But I wanted t'." From his pocket, he pulled out a slender chain with a locket. "It's empty... ya can fill it with whatever ya want." The simple round locket was engraved with a whale. "I know ya like whales... I was reminded of ya when I saw it."
Sakul took it slowly. He held it close to his chest, and smiled again, stronger this time. "...thank you," he murmured, and hugged Bjorn again.
Bjorn held him tightly, holding back tears. Even the smallest joys he could bring made him feel important. He was glad. Together, they spent the day in quiet celebration.
