Powerswap!Pitch Frost: When's the last time you one-upped Jack Black and how did you do it?
Pitch: I did manage to completely freeze over his favorite little towns on Halloween. A nice freezing rain destroyed all of his trick or treating fun. Heh. ......though considering the aftermath of that....I don't know if I one upped him in the end.Hmm.I'll have to think of something new....
Powerswap!Jack: How long did it take for Pitch Frost to *ahem* warm up to you? What was your strategy?
Jack: Oh...it took a while. I'd say, eehhh five years or so? My main strategy was a very complicated and finely tuned combination of scaring the piss out of him and bothering him incessantly. I figured he'd either try to kill me or well..."""shut me up""""Either way, it would be fun!
Jack hissed in pain as he yanked the young woman out of the way of several knives made of ice. Once skimmed his side, cutting a thin line of res across his ribs. “Jack-“ the girl shouted, reaching out to try to help him.
“Just go!” Jack groaned as little spider webs of ice began to crawl up from the wound, curling around his torso.
Rapunzel frowned and opened her mouth to argue just as a blast of snow slammed into her side, knocking her to the ground. The air flew from her lungs as she tried to catch her breath.
She looked to see Jack, now fallen to one knee, clutching his ribs, face twisted in agony. His dark hair fell in his face as he moaned in pain, falling to the ground. “Jack!” Rapunzel shouted, jumping to her feet and leaping over another blast of ice.
She ran across the ground careful not to slip on the ice that suddenly began to form underneath her feet. She heard a low chuckle from behind her. Whipping around, she swung her hair like a laso, watching it curl around a pale wrist, yanking him to the ground, even as he tried to swoop away.
“Kozmotis Frosti.” She said as she pulled him closer with her hair, up until they were face to face.
The man chuckled; his ice blue eyes glittered malevolently as a dark smile grew on his face. “Rapunzel, the wishing star.” His eyes flitted to the fallen figure of Jack who was trying to crawl towards the two, a deep look of desperation on his face.
“Rapunzel.” She heard him wheeze, “run.”
“I have to say,” Kozmotis said smoothly, “I find it odd to see the Nightmare King playing with the fallen star.”
“What are you doing, Kozmotis?” Rapunzel questioned, yanking him closer, “All your storms are endangering the children! If you keep doing this-“
“Oh I know exactly what I’m doing, little girl.” He hissed, slipping free of Rapunzel’s hair and drawing himself up to his full height. The girl felt a twinge of fear in her heart, but shequickly stuffed it down, grabbing her hair, completely prepared to fight.
“I don’t want to fight you.” Rapunzel warned as snow and wind slowly began to swirl around her.
“Well I’m afraid, my dear, that it won’t be much of a fight.” The white haired man chuckled. Rapunzel swung her hair left and right, smashing gusts of snow and wind apart with a blast of golden light.
But the snow and wind kept coming, and Rapunzel began to feel herself tire, each attack that came at her seemed to be increasing in speed, or maybe she was just slowing down…
“My, my Rapunzel…” The drawling voice of Kozmotis said from above her. Rapunzel looked up, panting, to see the winter spirit resting his chin on his hand looking incredibly bored despite the dark clouds that swirled around him, sending storms of snowflakes cascading through the air. “I have to say…” He smirked at her, “I was expecting a little more from you, the famous Wishing Star. “
Rapunzel glared up at him, “I won’t let you hurt the children!” She tried to lift her arms, but she found them heavy as lead.
Kozmotis chuckled, moving his hand in a swirling motion, causing a wave of snow and ice to spire together in a sort of spear. Rapunzel’s eyes widened and her heart thumped quickly in her chest. “I’m afraid you don’t have much of a choice, my dear.” He said darkly just as he plunged the spear down at her, moving with surprising speed.
She grabbed for her hair, but she knew she wouldn’t be quick enough; she was too tired, too weak.
She was going to die.
“No!” She heard a voice bellow. She whirled around, her golden hair flying, just in time to see Jack burst through the tornado of snow and ice, completely surrounded by his swirling nightmare sand, his sharp, white teeth flashing.
“Jack!” Rapunzel began to shout, his side was completely drenched in blood, and little shards of ice had grown from the tendrils of snow that had been growing on his side, piercing through his robes and puncturing the skin.
He was upon her in a moment, wrapping his arms around her tightly as the nightmare sand quickly engulfed them, the wind roaring loudly in her ears as her feet lifted off the ground.
Rapunzel gripped the back of Jack’s jacket as they flew through the air, his nightmare sand acting as a shield from Kozmotis’s onslaught of attacks.
Eventually the air around them stilled, and Jack gently touched to the ground. When Raspunzel tried to pull away from her he didn’t let go, and instead tumbled to the ground, pulling her with him.
Rapunzel gasped in surprise as she slumped against his chest while he leaned against a wall for support. When Rapunzel looked around she saw that they were in Jack’s layer. The cavernous walls were made of rock and stretched far up into the darkness where no ceiling was visible.
The only light came from torches that lined the walls. There was hardly any furniture, just a dingy globe covered with feebly flickering lights. There were dozens of different hallways leading off into the darkness, each path made of gray stone.
She heard Jack give a shuddering breath as he pulled her to the floor with him, arms still wrapped firmly around her body. Rapunzel fell to her knees, in-between Jack’s legs as he held her to his chest, breathing in the scent of her hair.
“I felt your fear.” He said softly, gripping her tightly as he let his head drop to her shoulder. “I-“ He stopped and shook his head, but he didn’t lift it from her, instead only trying to pull her closer. “I thought you were going to die.”
Rapunzel relaxed and wrapped her arms around him in return. “I’m sorry.” She replied before trying to pull away.
“Don’t.” Jack quickly snapped, his grip suddenly turning viselike, and even a little painful. His arms loosened just as quickly as they tightened, but he still kept them around her. “Please.” He said softly, “just let me hold you.”
Rapunzel gently nodded, lifting a hand to his black hair and stroking it soothingly. “I’m alright.” She assured, “just a little tired. “
Rapunzel felt sudden sticky moisture on her hand, when she turned to look she saw it was stained with blood. “Jack, you need to let me heal you.” She ordered.
“It’s fine,” He argued, not looking up from his nook in her shoulder. Then he quickly added, “Use your hair to heal yourself.”
“Jack, I wasn’t hurt, just a little tired-“
His head snapped up, “That’s a lie.” He said sharply, “Don’t think you can trick me, I felt your fear roiling inside me. It was dark and thick, sticky like tar.” He brought a hand over his heard and clenched the fabric of his shirt. “Then, it became my fear.” He shuddered, “ I felt death looming over you and…” He shook his head, “Please just do it.”
Rapunzel paused and nodded before wrapping her hair around both of them, ignoring his protests. She didn’t bother telling him that her hair only worked on other people…
“Flower, gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the Fates' design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine.”
Rapunzel sang softly as her river of hair slowly began to glow, healing Jack’s wounds, as it’s current of light coiled around his body. She quickly unwrapped her hair and pulled back his shirt. The wounds were completely healed, without a trace of a scar or bruise. Rapunzel sighed with relief.
“You’re not better.” Jack stated, looking at her darkly. Rapunzel rolled her eyes.
“I told you, I wasn’t hurt that badly-“ She felt his hand on her shoulder. “What are you-“ He quickly pushed her body against his chest, letting his hand rest on her waist.
“Rest.” He said, eyes already closed.
“Jack, we can’t! Kozmotis is still out there and-“
“You won’t be any help the way you are now, and you won’t rest if I don’t make you.” He replied, pushing a strand of hair out of her eyes, looking as though he wanted to say more, but he closed his mouth and tipped his head back closing his eyes once more.
Rapunzel sighed and nestled into his chest, letting her breathing fall into rhythm with his. Her eyes were heavy and she realized she had been much more tired than she even let herself believe.
“Rapunzel?” Jack asked softly into her hair.
“Hm?” She replied.
“Do you remember your past?” his other hand found its way to her hair and began to gently stroke the fine strands.
Rapunzel’s eyes opened and she took a deep breath, “yes.”
She felt him stiffen slightly beneath her, but he continued on. “What was it like?”
Rapunzel sighed and replied, “I was a princess-“
Jack laughed, “really?” he chuckled, “that fits you.”
“Let me finish.” Rapunzel interrupted a smile tugging at her lips. She felt Jack nod, and then she continued, “But I was kidnapped by an old woman, who wanted to use my magic hair to stay young forever-“
“Miserable hag.” Jack mumbled under his breath.
“Hey! Do you want to hear the rest?” She felt him nod. “Alright, then be quiet.”
“You really are a princess-“
“Jack!”
“I’m still listening!”
Rapunzel huffed, “anyways, I lived in a tower, hidden from the rest of the world, but every night, on my birthday, these floating lights would appear in the sky.” She adjusted into a more comfortable position on his chest. “So, for my eighteenth birthday I begged my mother-“
“But she wasn’t your mother-“ Jack interrupted.
“I thought she was my mother.” Rapunzel clarified before moving on, “I begged Gothel to let me see the lights, but she told me I wasn’t allowed to leave the tower…” She paused, slightly embarrassed, “so I tricked her into thinking she was getting me paint made from seashells by the ocean-“
“Way to be daring, Punzie!” Jack teased.
Rapunzel tilted her head so her chin rested on his chest. She saw him cracking an amber eye open at her, a smirk on his face. “Are you sure you don’t want to tell the story?”
“Alright, alright, I’ll be quiet.” He closed his eyes quickly, but his telltale smirk was still plastered on his face.
Rapunzel looked at him suspiciously, “not long after she left someone came into my tower, a thief…” She paused waiting for Jack to interrupt, but he remained silent. “He told me his name was Flynn Rider.” She decided to leave out the part about her hitting him over the head with her frying pan.
“I convinced him to take me to see the lights, so I left my tower and we-“
“That’s enough.” Jack suddenly interrupted, standing up abruptly. Rapunzel looked at him questioningly, but still stood up and followed him.
“Jack?” She asked, quickly walking after him as he stalked down a dark corridor.
“I know how this story ends.” He said sharply as he straightened his cloak, looking at her darkly, “and I don’t want to hear anymore.”
Rapunzel’s eyes widened in understanding, “Jack!” She called, chasing after him.
“You think I haven’t heard the fairy tales, don’t you?”
“That’s not what I meant!”
“Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, Rapunzel, but I’m not as stupid as I may look!”
“I never said that!” Rapunzel caught him by the arm and yanked him around with force surprised even her. Her green eyes met his amber ones for a tense moment, and then she said, “I know that you’ve been alone for a long time-“
Jack’s body tensed and he tried to pull from her grip, “and I know that you’re lonely, and you’re afraid to lose the things… the people,” she said softly, “that you care about.”
His eyes softened, but his body remained rigid and cold. “But I want you to know,” Rapunzel looked straight into his eyes, “That I’m not going anywhere, you’re not going to be alone anymore.”
She held his gaze for a moment, but then Jack tore his eyes away, yanking his arm with him. He let out a forced laugh. “You say that like I care-“
“Jack-“ Rapunzel reached out to him
“No!” He shouted, leaping away, as though her touch would burn him. “I don’t care about anyone, I don’t need anyone! I’m fine being by myself!” He scurried away from her, his hand clutched to his chest.
Rapunzel looked as him sadly before turning her head away. “You and I both know that’s not true.” She replied just loudly enough for him to hear.
Jack flinched at her words. Then, he materialized his scythe made of nightmare sand. “Let’s just help the others.” He replied, summoning his sand like a storm. It would carry him wherever he told it to.
Rapunzel nodded, trying to hide the hurt in her eyes. Her hair began to glow as her feet lifted off the ground.
Then, the two streaked across the night sky, Rapunzel’s hair leaving a glowing flash that darted past the little diamonds that flickered and glowed not nearly as bright.
