Drabble challenge with prompt #2? :)
“Hey, hey, calm down. They can’t hurt you anymore.”
A thin sheen of sweat covered your entire body, whimpers escaped your lips and tears flowed from your eyes, but you were fast asleep. Sam pushed your door open after knocking lightly and receiving no answer. He watched as you twitched and clawed at your sheets, fingers digging into the mattress and trying to get a grip on anything you could find.
“[Y/N], wake up.” He shook your shoulders lightly before his fingers traced over your face, wiping the tears away.
You gasped as your eyes popped open, sucking in what felt like your first breath in years. Sitting up, you immediately wrapped your arms around your knees and buried your head between them. Sam slid beside you, draping an arm over your shoulder and pulling you into his side.
“Talk to me, please.” He spoke softly, not wanting to make things worse.
You shook your head and gripped your legs tighter.
“What happened? What did you see?” Sam’s arm moved up and down your upper arm soothingly.
“Demons...” You whimpered. “So many demons, Sam.” You peered up at him over your kneecap.
Your breathing became uneven, your eyes clamped shut, and you dug your nails into your legs until you drew blood. Sam grabbed your wrists and pulled you away from yourself, into his arms and against his chest.
“Hey, hey, calm down. They can’t hurt you anymore. I’ve got you.” Sam murmured into your hair while his hands trailed over your skin, reminding you he was real, he was here, everything else you’d seen was gone.
Sam was your safest place, and somehow, he knew that. You’d never told him, but just his touch was enough to calm you down, put your mind and body at ease. He didn’t know how he knew you needed him that night, but for some reason he was drawn to your room.
From that night on, you never slept alone, Sam’s arms were always around you somehow as you drifted to sleep, and he was always right there if you woke up and needed him.
