French duo Nikitch & Kuna Maze dropped a dancefloor jazz banger “Hey, This Must Be Deep”
French duo Nikitch & Kuna Maze dropped a dancefloor jazz banger “Hey, This Must Be Deep”, and announced the first full-length debut album “Débuts”. The song oscillates between jazz, funk, Brazilan music, house, and broken beat. Nikitch & Kuna Maze is the collaboration project between two emerging young artists from France. Nicolas Morant aka Nikitch is Lyon based classically trained musician, who becomes a footwork and trap producer and has developed influences amid various jazz, electro and trip-hop bands. Edouard Gilbert aka Kuna Maze is a young producer from also from Lyon and now based in Brussel. Training trumpetist, his music is a hypnotic and melodic beat-driven style that touches on electronica, hip-hop, broken beat, and jazz. The project Nikitch & Kuna Maze began when the duo met at the Chambery Jazz Conservatory in France. Listen Nikitch & Kuna Maze lead-single “Hey, This Must Be Deep” from the new album “Débuts” below: Débuts by Nikitch & Kuna Maze Building on their collaborative EP “Mush” released by Tru Thoughts Records last year, “Hey, This Must Be Deep” continues to explore the melting point between jazz and club culture. Duo’s music is an exciting mix of jazz, broken beat, Chicago footwork, UK garage, Detroit house, and downtempo underpinned by their road-tested new live format. In the interview on The Supreme Standard blog, they admired: “We are both inspired by UK music. I was first influenced by the post-dubstep scene in London, and then UK garage, broken beat, and the new jazz scene today… we were listening to a lot of music from the UK while working on the EP, so it’s only natural that those influences would feed into the sound of the record. I think that you can feel it while listening to it, too.” Watch Nikitch & Kuna Maze ft.
