The sun barely peaked over the Wall as the smoke billowed upward from the buildings, burning and destroyed by things man could not understand.
It was a sight most saw before darkness took the sweet pain away. The pain of not seeing someone you loved again, the pain of not being able to smell their scent on your pillow again or the feeling of their arms wrapped around bodies.
Laughter filling the air like a disease, a type of socially acceptable insanity that filled hearts like cancer- a feeling of vanishing from the one with that one and only person and never being sad again.
It wasn’t hard to put one’s life on the line for another. She did it almost everyday. Believing that all life had a purpose- meaning risking her own for another. It wasn’t something she regretted at all, shoving those out of the way of harm, saving people or even taking the blame for things done blatantly by others.

As instant as one can save a life- is as instant as one can lose it.
She never knew the feeling of being pushed out of the way, pulled out of the fray. Today, she finally found out the feeling.
Her frantic hands ran over all of Nikolaus’ body, the tears falling freely upon the blood stained jacket of the red-head. His breathing shuddered as red dripped down the side of his mouth.
His eyes, blank as they stared up at the sky, blue like the ‘oceans’, crystal clear and beautiful. Shine glinting off the emerald green, letting the slowly dying light take breaths away.
The hands clutched onto ripped clothing, calling out a name that would never answer back.
