Adidas has made a groundbreaking move by signing the nation’s top-ranked high school guard, Kaleena Smith, to a multi-year shoe deal, marking the brand's first NIL signing in women’s basketball.
Basketball legend Candace Parker, the brand's President of Adidas Women's Basketball, shared her admiration: "If you watch her play, her game speaks for itself. As a brand, we felt like this was a perfect fit."
Through the deal, Adidas will sponsor both Smith’s Ontario Christian high school team and her AAU team as they compete on the 3SSB Circuit.
Smith, who was named the 2023-24 MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year, has yet to announce her college plans, keeping fans eagerly anticipating her next steps.
USC guard JuJu Watkins just added another impressive achievement to her resume. On Thursday, Gatorade announced Watkins as the latest addition to its roster of athletes, making her just the third college basketball player to land a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with the iconic brand.
Watkins joins an elite group alongside UConn's Paige Bueckers and former Iowa star Caitlin Clark. As part of her partnership with Gatorade, she’ll be featured in upcoming marketing campaigns and will contribute to the Gatorade Player of the Year program, among other initiatives.
