"The Republic City Festival's l in town and it has this really cool dance show," said Nima, grinning. "I've always wanted to go, but I was too young before. Not this year though. I'm going to ask mom and dad to go. Think they'll let me?"

“Well, obviously I’m not your mom and dad, so I can’t really say for sure. But, I guess it would depend on what the show is like” Rohan replied looking over at his niece. “If there isn’t anything too bad in it, then I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t let you go.”

"Grandpa, do you ever take naps?" asked Nima. "I think you need a nap." (nimagyatso)

“I’ve been known to take a nap or two in my lifetime.”

“Why do you say that?”

"Lian needs a vacation. She never gets any sleep." (nimagyatso)

“I know she does…and even if she doesn’t want to admit it, I’m sure she knows she needs one, too” Rohan replied with a slightly exasperated sigh. “The problem is actually convincing her to take a break from the baby; at least one long enough to let her get the kind of sleep she needs.”

Occasionally Lian could be persuaded to let someone else watch over Koichi so she could get some sleep, but only when she was close to falling asleep against her will anyway. Even then, it took plenty of talk to convince her, and she never seemed to let herself sleep for more than four hours or so. It was more sleep than she usually got these past couple of months, but definitely nowhere near enough.

"Is it just me or Lian acting funny lately?" asked Nima, frowning as she thought of her cousin. Lian had just turned 16 and she wondered if she was maybe going through a phase like Taani had.

“…What do you mean by ‘acting funny’?” Rohan asked, looking over with a look of concern at Nima’s words. 

He did know that Lian had been feeling somewhat unwell for the past couple of days, but something told him that wasn’t what Nima was referring to.

"I'm starting to feel like my parents," said nineteen year old Nima. "I'm worried about Taani." (nimagyatso)

“Are you worried about anything in particular, or are you just worried in general?” Rohan asked, sitting across from his niece. He figured that would be the best way to have the conversation.

"But Mom... can't I eat now and train later?" pouted Nima. "Grandma made fruit tarts and they're waiting for me in the kitchen tight now." (nimagyatso)

“Nima.”  Jinora’s tone was stern as she crossed her arms.  “We haven’t even gotten through a half hour of training.  They’ll still be there when we’re done.  Now, let’s try those breathing exercises again.  I want you to really feel your breath warm your body.”  

Even as a grown woman, it was hard for her to resist the smell of Pema’s fruit tarts.  But she had to be the teacher now, and not the daughter.

"Uncle Rohan? Spirits come from the spirit world, right?" asked five year old Nima as she played with a toy. (nimagyatso)

“That’s right, Nima” Rohan answered, smiling warmly.
