Author Spotlight : Nineofhearts4 Day 2
Share one of your strengths.
Writing dialogue in <5k fics
Share one of your weaknesses.
Writing longer fics - I can do them, but I struggle with weaving in the depth of character development that I think tends to be key for longer fics
Which fic has been the hardest to write?
Aside from the Kid Nation!Klaine fic I have been failing to get right since 2013
Which fic has been the easiest to write?
The Break Up Letters. It was 40k words that I wrote in one week after I couldn't get my Kid Nation Klaine fic to work.
Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?
Is there an episode or character or arc above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
Blaine has historically inspired me the most. By being a s2 character that wasn't necessarily going to become a big role, he was able to avoid being a stereotype/trope.
What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Instead of stopping to perfect something, leave a note and come back to it. Ie instead of researching a detail, just make a note and come back to it once you're done with the main story
What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Sit down and write every day even when you don't want to. I think it might be decent advice if you're professionally writing, but definitely less so when it's just for fun
If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
The President's Son. Only I would definitely want to flesh out the story a bit more for a movie
What’s your process? Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order? Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines? What are the perfect writing conditions for you?
Usually I write whatever scene gave me the idea for the fic and then I flesh out an outline around it. I often just use pen and paper to flesh out an outline, but if I need to sort through ideas I will use Canva or Canva to build decision trees. The perfect writing conditions tend to be when I'm supposed to be doing something else - like work or school. Other than that, minimal background noise plus time alone is key.
