Andy Colby’s Incredibly Awesome Adventure! (1988)
The Silk Teddy
Does anything say nineteen-eighties better than the silk teddy? When we were growing up it was the aspirational lingerie of choice. Personally I always fancied storming into Ewing Oil HQ in a fur coat (not a real fur coat - that’s cruel) and throwing it back to reveal my silk-clad charms to an ungrateful JR before informing him I’d bought out his company and was closing it down due to the effect of anthropogenic climate change. Or just because he was really mean to Sue Ellen last week.
Trump Tower
“The building had the most tasteless lobby I had ever seen - all brass and chrome and blotchy red and white marble that looked like the sort of thing that if you saw it on the sidewalk you would walk around it.”
From The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America, by Bill Bryson (1989).
