Laotian Refugees at the Ubon Ratchathani Refugee Camp in Thailand in 1980. From June through December of 1980 I volunteered at this refugee camp in Northeastern Thailand. I taught a specialized English As A Second Language class which sought to acquaint refugees with basic English language skills to be successful when immigrating to an English Speaking Country. I learned a great deal about the difficulties faced by refugees and the resilience of the human spirit. As I watch refugees fleeing another corner of the world I am saddened and angry that this has happened yet again to a group of ordinary citizens. I have heard back from some people who were in the camp. They have built new lives for themselves in Europe and North America and made it thanks to a variety of charitable organizations. So support organizations working to assist refugees. I feel I was blessed to spend half a year with a wonderful group of people. Thanks to them I have a better understanding of the importance of assisting refugees and an gratified to see that happening again in the democratic countries bordering Ukraine. #Refugees #LaotianRefugees #LaotianRefugeeCamp #1980 #NineteenEighty #UbonRachathani #Thailand #LessonsLearned #SupportRefugees (at Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbOt2vYgGsz/?utm_medium=tumblr
