Oppositeshipping… where do I start
man I honestly love this ship even though it took me some time to warm up to. I think around the oni trilogy I started liking it ? And then season 11 really got me interested.
their dynamic fascinates me in such a way that just scratches my brain right. I think they’re really nice for each other and can balance each other out nicely <3 they’ve fascinated me in such a way that I’ve even made an au involving oppositeshipping during season 11.
one of my favorites things to draw or think about with oppositeshipping is Zane kissing Kai’s scarred eye, and Kai kissing Zane’s palms because they feel cool to the touch. they’re very cute to me <3

[ 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 ]
“Move, you absolute savage.” You nudge your boyfriend’s side, trying to surpass him in Mario Kart.
“Nuh-uh, cheater,” Jay mocks you, refusing to let you pass even a single inch. You’re both furiously smashing buttons on the couch, with empty packets of potato chips surrounding you both.
“Remember to clean up!” Kai reminds as he walks behind you both to his room.
“Uh-huh,” You and Jay say absentmindedly, continuing to bicker after. Kai shakes his head, leaving the both of you alone.
You end up losing and groan in defeat, slumping on the couch. Jay chuckles, leaning over and brushing his lips against yours in a chaste kiss. You smile into it, eyes fluttering open when he leans back.
You sit in silence for a moment as he starts another game, musing over your thoughts before the realization hits. You sit up straight with wide eyes. “Babe,” You call out.
“Yeah?” Jay’s still setting up the game, eyes trained on the bright screen.
“You know who you remind me of?”
“What?”
You hide a smile, trying to appear as calm as possible. “Lightning McQueen.”
He pauses.
“What?” He turns to you, the picture of astonishment and bafflement mixed into one.
“Yeah, think about it! You’re the Master of Lighting, and he’s called Lightning McQueen. You like cars, and he’s a car!” You point out, his raised brows going higher and higher with each word until he holds his hand against your forehead.
“Are you sick? Maybe we should get you to a hospital or get Zane to take a look.”
You finally break, dissolving into giggles as a reluctant smile tugs your boyfriend’s lips upwards once he realizes you’re just joking.
“Why you-!” Jay tackles you down, tickling your sides as your laughs spill past your lips. Your sides begin to ache, and you beg for him to stop. He pulls away, helping you sit up and wiping away tears of laughter from your eyes.
Your giggles die down, though your cheeks are red and aching from the bright smile on your face. You lean against him, and he scoffs playfully before slinging his arm around your shoulders.
“I guess Lightning McQueen and I are more alike than I thought.” He muses.
This makes you nod, already trying to suppress the giggles that threaten to emerge again.
At least now you know what to get him for his birthday.

“You can’t be serious.”
Jay looks down at the box and back up at you while you struggle to contain the goofy smile that stretches your lips. You nod once, and it’s all it takes for him to mirror your exact smile.
He holds a warm, fuzzy blanket in his hands, with the very picture of Lightning McQueen embroidered on one side. He giggles delightedly, scooping you into a huge hug and kissing your cheek.
You spot Kai and the others shifting uncomfortably in their seats, sharing weirded-out looks with each other as they watch the both of you. “Okay, I’m not the only one seeing this, right?” Cole speaks up, Kai and Zane both nodding in agreement.
“I don’t see anything wrong with it,” Pixel says, glancing around in visible confusion.
“It’s just weird!” Kai agrees with Cole, eyes trained on the blanket in Jay’s hands.
“I agree. I do not see any connection between Jay and Lightning McQueen.” Zane nods.
You and Jay exchange an amused smile, silently agreeing on your next move. You both lift your hands and point finger guns at them, saying in unison.
“Kachow.”
