🖤 Some gothic souls there (pun intended) might like an original creature of mine, the Niruvei !
Raphael, the Persian deuteragonist of the story is a Niruvei and he prefers a tangible form because he can wear the most lavish clothes, hug his annoying (affectionate) son and his three-headed dog, and joke about wagering people's souls in disc golf.
(Commission by Erin Drake, for the original character)
Here's the link to the story summary. For those who are not caught up, it's a modern retelling of Hades and Persephone with Hellenic and Persian cultural elements, written out of spite for bad HxP retellings. (Fingers crossed I succeed publishing it)
✎ Excerpt from The Other Evil
The Guard // The XXI Series concepts [4]
Niruvei have a council of their own in every country, dictated by the local constitution. The number of members of this council is analogous to the number of the recorder Niruvei in the country. Usually, Niruvei who are influential and have ties to the human government of humans take up the seats. It doesn’t function as a political party, since Niruvei have chosen to be represented by the already existing human parties. The council leads the rest of Niruvei and supports the Niruvei agencies in every town, which help the immortals with their their rights and legal cases.

{XXI Series Creatures - Niruvei}
A being from another dimension that has no particular shape. It travels through portals to our universe, in order to transfer energy – souls – to its world. It consists of an unknown element, that allows it to create flesh and take human form. It reaps the soul of a mortal when its ties with the body are loose. It is, as humans call it, Death.
More details:
Niruvei lived in the other dimension and visited our universe only to reap. Some thousand years ago, the energy equilibrium between their world and Earth was distorted, causing some of them to stay permanently on Earth. They still carry souls to the Otherworld to cover their needs in energy, but they are are not able to stay there for long.
Shapeshifting has limitations to their colors and sex.
They don’t grow old or die of natural causes.
