I think I like it that Kaneki is actually a shotty leader, referring back to when Kaneki was hallucinating about Rize when he was captured by Jason, saying that he 'forced to play the role' when they were talking about the play. That's just like now, the title of The OEK being forced onto him even though he has no idea what to do but is trying to do his best for everyone.
Oh yeah, definitely. I’m not pissed that he’s a shitty leader, per se, just the fact that he’s treated by a lot of people (both in the manga and in the fandom) as though he’s some kind of wonderful King when he really isn’t doing the job very well at all.
I think it’s deliberately made clear that Kaneki isn’t a good leader; we explicitly get that panel where he says he’s only fighting for ghouls because there are a few people close to him who are ghouls. We know he isn’t doing this for the good of everyone and society in general. Even Tsukiyama points out that Kaneki is being too soft because he is responsible for so many people’s lives now and he can’t let his emotions get in the way of doing what’s best for them. I would say that scene where Kaneki wanted to talk to Amon but Ayato knocked some sense into him was another example of Kaneki’s inability to be a good leader being spelled out to us.
I’m pretty sure this arc will see a lot of people dying, and I know a lot of people don’t like it, but if Touka does end up dying, it would be a good wake up call for Kaneki to realise that he has to start changing his perspective on things.

About that anon asking about why people compare koe no katachi and Hide, it's probably because the protagonist in that story is deaf and uses sign language, and that's what everyone is hc'ing with our mute Hide because it gives them spontaneous orgasms.
I’d also love to see Hide using sign language.
