My delusional ass is praying for OG Bullet Club back
So . . . I kind of think all this Shota hate and his underwhelming Wrestle Kingdom main event will be good for him.
Like, his character has always been kind of a bland good guy. The most interesting thing about him is that Jon Moxley adopted him, but I don't have a good sense of who he is.
But the way the crowd just booed him during his match with Claudio Castagnoli, it's reminding me of how Tetsuya Naito got booed and voted out of the main event of Wrestle Kingdom, which then started his years-long quest to prove himself in the Tokyo Dome, which made him the most popular dude in the company and is probably NJPW's best storyline.
Anyway, NJPW is pretty good about making stuff like this pay off and matter. I can see this working into Shota Umino's narrative, how he has to work his way back to the Tokyo Dome to redeem himself with a match worthy of closing Wrestle Kingdom.
hehe
Absolutely gutted for Douki. Heartbreaking end to his 2024 rise of Doukimania and big moment at the Tokyo Dome. That sucks.
However, it is hilarious how much the universe conspires to make El Desperado the main character. This is a dude who just wants to do niche deathmatches and homoerotic jockstrap matches with his friends, but fate keeps throwing pandemics and injuries to his colleagues at him so he is always the most important dude at work. Narratively, this was the perfect way for Despy to get this belt back.
