Sistah Xtina (me) & Nkulee Dube, daughter of the late great Lucky Dube, reggae artist from South Africa. She is an amazing artist, singer and performer to watch for in the coming years. She is a lioness and has a real raw natural talent. She had an amazing performance at Reggae on the River this year. The Northwest World Reggae Festival 2013 continues to announce their lineup for July 26th & 27th in Marcola, Oregon! In addition to Prezident Brown and Nkulee Dube, performers at Bob’s Ranch this year now include Etana, Chronnix, Kabaka Pyramid, Perfect Giddimani, Zincfence Band, Roots Life Music Showcase with African Foundation Crew featuring Paapa Wastik, Black I, Jah-Thunda Wisdom & Ruffa One, Synrgy, Sol Seed, The Highlife Band, and De Solution. Every act has been confirmed to give outstanding performances to the masses on a beautiful piece of private land in the middle of an old growth forest!!

SO I MISSED REGGAE on the RIVER THIS YEAR. Yes yes, tear to my eye. I missed one of my FAVORITE Female musicians from South Africa, whom I had met, who is quite lovely. Ms. Nkulee Dube. Oh yes, if there was a girl I had a crush on, it would be her. Seriously. She got the stage presence of her father, with most beautiful locks, gorgeous personality. And she is overall stunning. She can command the room, work a crowd like no other. She is young, fresh, and up and coming. She is going to be huge.
We did an interview with her for KPFA in 2011. From talking with her, and connecting with her, I noticed something she has something other women artists sometimes lack. She is not supermodel, not a Nicki Manaj over the top, but she is a person you could connect with. Like being her best friend. She is a strong willed, quite beautiful African woman, with an amazing voice. She is every woman, and the Lioness Princess of South Africa.
I was blessed to meet her, and was really bummed out I didn't get to see her this year at Reggae on the River. Oh well...

Rick Ross also coming to SA
Rap heavyweight Rick "The Boss" Ross is coming to SA to Join Lil Wayne (aka Weezy) as a supporting act on his tour. Set to perform in the Johannesburg leg of Wayne's tour, I Am Still Music, Ross's addition to the bill was announced by Channel O and the shows' promoters earlier this week.
The show is so highly anticipated organizers have had to release an additional 2 000 tickets for the performance, which happens on the 9th of December. The three-date tour starts off in Cape Town, moving to Jo'burg and ending off in Durban on the 11th. Promoters Canoc Productions have also launched a Lil Wayne supporting act competition giving local artists the chance to score a slot on the coveted bill.
Nkulee Dube doing father proud
Daughter of tragically cut-down muso Lucky Dube, Nkulee Dube is doing very well in continuing the legacy left by her very talented father. After having hit major festivals in countries like Australia, Holland and France, she is now billed to perform at a massive charity concert at the Accra International Fair Trade Centre in Ghana later this month.
Thereafter she will perform at two of the biggest Ghanaian sports stadia. After having taken up her father's band, One People, her career has done very well - both for her own material and performances of her father's. She also recently appeared on a German compilation album that lead to a marked impression for track "Give It To Me".
Converse Party hits the Eikestad
The shoemakers are to host "The Right to Make Noise Party" in Stellenbosch this week. The event takes place on Saturday the 19th of November at The Klein Libertas Theatre, to coincide with the huge Balkanology event held there on the same evening. They are also giving away 10 tickets to the latter.
Would-be party goers must visit Facebook to finalize which option the party will incorporate - the right to trade up your Converse shoes, to have a VIP jacuzzi, to a free cooler box, to a raincoat or the right to the best seat. This can be found under the "The Right to Make Noise" tab on the Converse SA page. It's one Facebook search away.
Kurt learns to fly
Afrikaans singing sensation - and oft controversial figure - Kurt Darren is learning to fly a helicopter. It seems part of a bigger move by the singer to streamline his often complicated life and career. He has reportedly done over seven hours of flying, and will need to do 50 hours in total, including 15 solo hours, before qualifying for the licence. He claims also to want eventually to purchase his own helicopter.
He has said that the learning process is both addictive and that it helped him find his focus. In addition to learning to fly, Darren claims to enjoy other "adrenaline-based activities" such as skydiving, shark-cage diving, and bungee jumping. This new affect seems to have trickled over into his music also - he has reportedly done away with his familiar back tracks and is now playing with live band.
