The SU Libraries Are Celebrating Our Student Employees!

We asked our student employees a couple questions in preparation for National Student Employment Week and National Library Week. Here are some of their responses.

As part of National Library Week, today is National Library Workers Day, and we'd like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and tell y'all a little more about us!

Three catalogers work here at the Noel Collection--Martha Lawler, who is the principal cataloger, and Amy Blackburn and Aimee Plaisance, who also run our social media. 

Martha's favorite book is Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë, and she is currently cataloging books from the American and French revolutionary periods, especially the Napoleonic wars. Amy's favorite book is The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, and she is currently cataloging books on nature, birds, flowers, and gardens. Aimee's favorite book is Slouching Towards Bethlehem, by Joan Didion, and she is currently cataloging the works of Greek and Roman authors.

Happy National Library Workers Day!  Libraries work because we do, and I hope all of my fellow library cohorts are having an awesome day.  At my library, we’re getting treated to a lunch of pizza, salad, and cake, so life is pretty much the best.

Throughout the week of April 12-18, the SU Libraries will join schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians and library workers.

All week long we will be celebrating our student workers and highlighting some of the unlimited possibilities at our library. On Monday, April 13th the American Library Association 2015 State of America’s Libraries Report will be released. Tuesday, April 14th is National Library Workers Day. Also, in conjunction with National Library Week is our Spring Book Sale.

The library has always been a place of unlimited possibilities -- come and help us celebrate all week long! Follow the national hashtag #nlw15 or help us celebrate at SU with #sunlw15.
