Serious inquiry - Do Wagner operas and pieces get performed in Germany a lot? Because Wagner wrote his own librettos and he was an infamous anti-Semitic, many of his works contain anti-Semitic themes like making a Jewish villain, and the like. In fact, he blamed almost all of his failures on either the Jews or Verdi. I'm just curious, thanks!
They do, and the home of Wagner opera is Bayreuth in Bayern. There are people who disagree, but the general feeling in my experience is that he was a cunt but at least his compositions are good - keep in mind that Shakespeare would by today’s standards be hugely problematic, including stereotypes of Jews (Shylock in Merchant of Venice), clear anti-black beliefs (Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing*) and jokes about rape (Jaques in As You Like It**). In these cases we just have to distance the people from the works and realise that performing Lohengrin isn’t synonymous with agreeing with Wagner’s thoughts on Jews, just like performing Lincolnshire Posy isn’t synonymous with agreeing with Grainger’s thoughts on women or non-whites***.
*In one of the final scenes, Claudio is asked whether he will marry the veiled woman in front of him, who he believes he hasn’t met yet, and he says (I believe this is the quote but I might be a bit off) “I’d hold my mind were she an Ethiope”, which basically translates as “I’d say yes even if she were black”.**The lines in question haven’t survived the test of time in more ways than just that our humour has evolved. The original joke cannot really be understood anymore because of the change in pronunciation. I believe the quote is “...hour after hour we ripe and ripe...”, which in original pronunciation would have sounded like “...whore after whore we rape and rape...”. It makes productions of that scene very awkward because Jaques is telling it as a joke, and if the audience doesn’t know the original meaning they don’t see the humour, and if they do, they’re more shocked than amused.***Grainger was infamously a white supremacist and misogynist obsessed with BDSM.
What if Ron's wand backfired in year 2, erasing his memory?
that would be terrible! if he ended like lockart never getting back to normal a lot of things would change. Harry would lost his best friend. Hermione would lost her future husband (maybe she would end with Krum). Of course that they would visit him all the time. I don’t think that Ron’s place would be replaced. It would be a true loss :(
sleepover time
Okay dylie time to fess up. Do you have any fetishes :)?
Of course I do! 🤐🤐
