Kade frowned as he reached for his shadows. For a moment he managed to control them, before they slipped away again. He clenched his jaw annoyed. This was getting really irritating.
He really wanted to be able to use his shadows again. It hurt not being able to use his shadows.
Leaning back he stared up at the skies. At least it wasn't that hot today. He tried reaching for his shadows again, without really looking. A sharp pain shot through his arm, making him bite back a groan.
"Shit..." he muttered before leaning forward, holding his arm.
"Hey Key" Killian said as he fell down on a chair next to Kade.
Kade sighed, tilting his head so he could look at Killian. "Sup..." he said "What are you doing here?"
Killian looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "I can't come and check on my friend that's been depressed the last few weeks?" he asked.
"No," Kade said flatly, trying not to grin at Killian.
"Too bad for you," Killian said.
"Where's Bella?" Kade asked, slowly letting go of his arm.
"Out on a mission" Killian said "She is the golden girl of the academy. So it shouldn't surprise you that much that she's not here"
Kade nodded. "And the other two idiots?" he asked "I haven't seen them in a while"
Killian chuckled. "Is that so...?" he said "Sounds like you actually care about those two idiots" he said.
Kade shrugged. "They make life interesting," he said.
"I think you're the only one that makes friends because they make life interesting" Killian said, shaking his head "We need to get back to the dorms, before you get me in more trouble"
"Oh bull...I've never gotten you into trouble," Kade said, slowly getting to his feet.
"Yeah yeah..." Killian said "Keep telling yourself that"
"Thanks, I will," Kade said.
Killian chuckled as they walked. "Why did you leave campus again?" he asked "You know you're under strict orders not to"
"What are they going to do?" Kade asked, voice dripping with sarcasm "Kick me out? After all of their efforts to seal my power, there's no way they'd let me go"
Killian glanced at him. "Kay...." he started.
"Don't start" Kade said, jamming his hands into his pockets "I don't have the energy to argue with you again"
"We're not arguing, Kay. This is so we can make sure you're alright and if you keep this going, they are going put another seal on you" Killian said "And then you're going to be screwed"
Kade glared down at the ground.
"You think I don't know that? On the other hand I don't know if Ray will allow it"
"I don't think he'll be able to stop them for long," Killian said.
"I'll be fine" Kade said "I don't care about it anymore"
Killian looked over at Kade. There was a blank look on his friend's face. He was lying.
Again.
He was not going to be fine. And he did care about not being able to use his power. It was painful to see his friend like that. He always say that he's fine and he never was. Not since he came here.
The two continued on in silence.

"What's going on?" Killian asked as he looked at the students gathering around.
Kade shrugged. "Don't care..." he said as he started to walk away.
Killian sighed
"That's him!" a voice called "He's the one that did it!"
"Delroy!" a voice snarled "Get back here now"
"What now....?" Kade grumbled as he turned back. He almost stepped back as everyone glared at him.
"Hold on... what's going?" Killian said, blinking at the people in front of him.
"You attacked Grunter and stole his phone and laptop" one of the kids said.
"What the hell?" Kade started "Why the heck would I want that asshole's stuff. I'd rather get locked in a sunroom than take his stuff"
"So you're denying the accusation?" one of the teachers asked.
"Of course" Kade snapped "Unless you need some hearing aids"
Killian quickly grabbed Kade's arm. "Calm down man..." he said quietly.
"I am calm" Kade snapped, before pain rushed through his arm from the seal. He took a deep breath, before sneering at the people in front of him.
"You're lying!" the guy that accused him yelled "You damn villain"
"I wasn't even on campus you, stupid lackeys" Kade said "Why don't you check your facts before accusing someone that wasn't even here"
"You weren't on campus?" the teacher asked, frowning slightly "Without a permit?"
Kade shot the man a flat look. "Yes... without a damn permit" he said.
"Go to the headmaster's office" the teacher snapped "We will sort this out later"
Kade stared at the man for a moment, before pulling his hand through his hair. "Fine..." he growled.
With that he turned and headed towards the main building.
"Coward!" one of the students yelled after him.
Kade just lifted a hand, flipping the guy off.
Shouts sounded from behind him, but he ignored it. It wasn't like he wasn't used to it.
This was a pain.
Behind him footsteps followed. He did not even want to see who was following now. Most likely it was Killian. He couldn't think of anyone else stupid enough to follow him.
"Kay!"
Killian... He was right.
"What?" he asked, looking over at the blond.
"Are you alright?" Killian asked, looking worried.
Kade shrugged. "Yeah.. Don't worry" he said "There's not much they can do to me"
"They can put you in isolation again," Killian said.
That made Kade stop for a moment and frown dangerously. His hand clenched into a fist as he took a deep breath.
"Then I'll deal with it" he said "They can’t punish me for something I did not do"
Killian sighed. "Don't cause yourself more trouble..." he said.
Kade nodded as he started walking again. "Are you going to follow me the entire way to the headmaster's office?" he asked.
"Yes," Killian said with a nod, falling into step next to Kade.
A slight smile formed on Kade's face as he walked. "Alright..." he said before pausing "..Thanks"
Killian nodded as he followed Kade inside.
As they made their way through the hallways, Kade could feel all the eyes on him. Everyone probably knew about what was going on.
When they reached the headmaster's office, Killian stepped back.
"I'll wait for you out here" he said "Please don't make him mad.... Alright?"
Kade shrugged as he knocked on the door. "I can't promise anything" he said as the secretary called him to enter "See you later"
With that he opened the door and stepped inside.
"Delroy" the secretary said, narrowing her eyes at him.
"Yarling sent me," Kade said, making himself comfortable on one of the chairs.
The woman sighed. "What did you do this time?" she asked.
Kade shrugged. "I don't know... apparently I attacked Grunter and stole his stuff" he said, folding his hands behind his head.
"And did you?" she asked "I know the two of you don't get along"
"Nope... I was off campus" Kade said.
"Again?"
"I was bored," Kade said.
"You'll get into more trouble"
"What are they going to do? Seal my power?" Kade asked sarcastically "Already done that"
The woman sighed. "Alright" she said, before motioning to the door "You can go through"
Kade nodded and got up. He opened the door and strode through. Immediately his shadows hissed softly, almost startling him. It was the first time he'd heard them do that since he got the seal.
It shouldn't surprise him. The hostility he felt stepping into the office, almost made it hard to breathe. He wanted to reach for his power, but that was not an option. The headmaster hated him and the feeling was mutual. The man was an idiot.
"Delroy" the headmaster said, eyes narrowed at Kade.
"Headmaster" Kade said, crossing his arms.
"You attacked Grunter"
"I don't think so"
"You're lying to me"
"Nope..."
"Yes you are... Someone saw you"
"No, they didn't," Kade said flatly, folding his hands behind his head.
"Are you saying they are lying?"
"Absolutely" Kade said "They are lying through their asses.... and you might want to have them check their eyes as well.... cause I'm pretty sure that they are blind"
"Delroy!" The headmaster snapped "Stop with your lies.... that's enough. If you don't start telling the truth right now, you will be in a lot of trouble"
"What are you going to do?" Kade asked "Expel me? Put another seal on me? Just fucking try it"
"SHOW SOME RESPECT"
Kade looked the man right in the eye, before sticking out his tongue. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said.
"DELROY!" the headmaster snarled, slamming his hands onto the table.
"What?" Kade asked, feeling annoyed "You are the one that keeps on saying that I'm lying... I didn't do jack shit to Grunter... The guy's a douche. If I don't need to interact with him, I wouldn't. So why don't you just check your facts before you start accusing people that's not even there"
The headmaster narrowed his eyes at Kade. "What are you talking about?"
"I wasn't on campus" Kade said coldly "Stop accusing people of things they didn't do"
"Delroy..." the man said slowly "You are treading on thin ice"
"I really don't care," Kade said, suddenly feeling tired. He did not have the energy anymore to argue with the headmaster.
"There's always the isolation rooms for you" the headmaster said, still glaring at Kade.
Kade sighed. "Fine... Put me in there..." he said "You can go through my room... you wouldn't find Grunter's shitty stuff there. I'll go in because I went off campus without permission"
"Get out" the headmaster snapped "and report to the insolation rooms"
Kade smirked slightly. "With or without blockers?" he asked, sickeningly sweet and he could have sworn he heard the headmaster grinding his teeth. If the man could he probably would have given him with the blockers. But since he got the seal, they weren't allowed to use the blockers on him.
And they hated him for that. Since they couldn't make him suffer too much.
"Nice chat..." Kade said as he left the office. As he closed the door behind him he gave the secretary a slight nod before leaving.
"What happened?" Killian asked.
"Got isolation for a few days" Kade said, folding his hands behind his head again "He yelled and got mad... nothing unusual"
Killian sighed. "Come on..." he said as he started walking.
"Let me know when Bella gets back," Kade said as he followed next to Killian.
Killian nodded. "Alright..." he said.

Kade lay on the bed in the white room. He stared up at the ceiling. He'd been sleeping most of the time, since he came into the room. At least he wasn't so tired anymore.
They were now on day three of the isolation.
He hadn't heard anything about what was going on outside. Not a word about him stealing Grunter's stuff, nor about Bella. He didn't even see Killian.
There were a few times that he got a bit too bored, but he just slept most of the time.
His body felt like it was healing a bit better, since he wasn't being told to run around and fight. It was wonderful. Even though he still had to do his school work.
Not that he minded that.
A click sounded from the door and Kade lifted his head. Killian stepped into the room.
Immediately Kade sat up.
"What's going on?" he asked, going by the look on Killian's face, it was not good news.
"It's Bella" Killian said "She's missing"
"What?" Kade snapped as he shot to his feet.
"Her mission" Killian said "She never came back from it and they don't know where she is... She’s MIA, presumed.... presumed dead..."
Kade shook his head slightly, as he walked over to Killian. "She's not dead" he said coldly "What are they doing about it?"
"There's about four teams searching for her" Killian said "We're one of them... we're going out in the next hour"
"We?" Kade asked quietly and Killian nodded.
"That's right.... we" Killian said "You, me, Riley, Beck and a few others"
Kade nodded slowly. "Alright... Let's go" he said.

And thus concludes the live-blog commentary for ‘The Consort – Chapter 09: Swarms and Sia’
Special thanks as always to Kigichi - your replies were a treat.
My live-blog commentary for ‘The Consort – Chapter 10: Blood is Thicker than Water’ will begin on Wednesday 04 May 2022 at 07:30am (GMT+8), using the ‘Redring91 commentary’ tag.
What a pleasant chapter this is, to be bookended on both sides by Shaw.
There is actually some commentary to be had on the meeting between Shaw and En Sabah Nur within Chapter 16, so I won’t offer too much here.
But here’s what I will offer:
Names have power
Shaw is very honest
Shaw is a very good liar
‘an advocate for the rites’
‘access to the fire-vaults’
And a final thought: as we know, Shaw is selective with his word choice. So, why would he use the suspiciously loaded term ‘lord-god’ when talking to a telepathic god about Erik’s inevitable submission?
Random thought: I’m the author. I can amend the summary of chapter 12 to reflect the full sentence, instead of cutting it off half-way through, if I want to.
