I’m rewatching S3 of stranger things to make sure I’m as accurate as possible for Cruel Summer and I just want to give these boys some love man. This shed scene has me choking. Lucas trying his hardest to apologize to Will on both his AND Mike’s behalf for blowing off his campaign makes me tear up a little, especially when Will tries to shrug it off (even though it’s obvious he is still very hurt) and you can tell Lucas is still so bothered by his behavior towards one of his best friends. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH, their friendship is so underrated man 🥹😭❤️‍🔥

Part of me is Byler won’t be canon this season they need more time to build it so in season 5 for sure and the other part of me is like we have 2 hour movies in general that manage to pull off love story between 2 protagonists (most times strangers to lovers) so it’s not impossible to make Byler canon this season !

i’m genuinely not trying to start an argument, but can we like.... stop holding famous teenagers to impossible standards? like if a 13/14/15/16 year old stars in a popular series/movie/whatever, that doesn’t make them an adult? Teenagers are still young and don’t have all the facts about everything all the time, and just because these certain teenagers happen to be in the spotlight, that doesn’t mean they’re any different. 

Like, it’s one thing to want them to apologize for making bigoted comments, and it’s another thing to go online and incessantly bully them or act shocked/disappointed that they’re not a perfectly ~woke~ person. 

just as an example, Aidan Gallagher is probably annoying in real life, but he’s sixteen? Most sixteen-year-olds are, especially one who’s just recently become pretty famous. And you can dislike him or think he’s annoying or even avoid watching him, but don’t go around saying that the adult cast members on TUA should bully him (I’ve seen a few people saying that). like just stop? 

Or with the stranger things kids, I’m not saying they won’t make mistakes, but for god’s sake most of them were twelve when they started filming. You’re telling me you never made mistakes in middle school?

Anyway, can we just cut them some slack? (DON’T put words in my mouth, I’m not saying they don’t have to apologize or whatever if they do something shitty, but for real, they’re kids)

The Disappearance of Will Byers... 's childhood!

Spoilers for Season 3

When I first saw Stranger Things 3, I was confused as to why Will got upset enough to destroy his fort.

I got why he was upset, of course. His friends were ditching their friendship to chase girls and that's frustrating, but this was a recent development.

Mike and Eleven were estranged all summer, but Lucas and Max seemed to have stuck around. Lucas mentioned that Max constantly broke up with him and I imagine that's because he kept ditching her to play with Mike and the boys when they were available. Mike and Lucas completely blowing him off seemed to only be over the last week.

My initial theory was unrequited love for Mike and the added confusion of being gay in a time where being gay was equivalent to criminal.

While Will may well still be gay (he's young, he's got time to figure it all out and to find a better crush than fuckin' Mike WHO NEEDS TO GET HIS GREASY TEENAGE BOY HANDS OFF OF ELEVEN OR SO HELP ME GOD... ahem) his frustrated homosexuality isn't what led him to destroy Castle Byers. Not entirely.

Your early teenage years are when you do the most developing. From 10 to 15, so much of who you are is determined by the little things in life and missing out on any of it is the equivalent of 10 years at any other stage in life (exaggerated, I know, but my point is that those years are very important).

Will spent a disproportionate amount of time in the Upside Down and in the Mind Flayer's employ and, as such, has missed out on so much development. Given the time between his rescue and his exorcism, he lost about a year, year and a half to the Upside Down and it bothers him.

Mike now has Eleven, Lucas has Max, Johnathan has Nancy, Joyce has Bob/Hopper and Dustin has Steve, but Will hasn't had the chance to grow and make new friends and relationships like the others.

What bothers him isn't that his friends have all grown up, it's that he hasn't.

In conclusion:

I always joke that Will is barely a character. He's in the series for about an episode and the rest of the time it has been the Mind Flayer in him, but I'm just realizing how frustrating that must be for him. Especially in season 3 when all of this was supposed to be over. His friends have already grown up and moved on and he's still Little Will Byers, but the Mind Flayer is back anyway to take even more of his childhood, even more of his life away and it sucks. It really and truly sucks.
