It’s about the friends we make along the way.
Meet Noah and @TristanLuneau!

Kingsley hadn’t forgotten what he’d promised Noah Warren. He had meant it, every word, but getting Warren Sr. to not be a complete ass about it had turned out to be a bit harder than anticipated. Luckily he did have Frank on his side. Sure Frank was mostly busy getting ready to become a father and looking after the startling pregnant Alice, but that didn’t mean the emotional support didn’t help. Always good to have a friend in your corner.
In the end, he’d just gone over Warren Sr.’s head and told the DMLE liaison and recruitment staff that they needed more bodies in desks and anything he could do to help make that happen, he’d do. Did it make an enemy of a useful coworker? Maybe. But Warren Sr. had never run to the kitchens to get him pudding in the off-chance he’d be less miserable, so Warren Sr. could suck it.
“Okay, I won’t lie, it’s really weird having someone along in the mornings.” He told Noah as he wove through the crowd of people with practiced ease. “Do you want any tea? It’s only my first cuppa, I could always use another.”

My father threw his weight into the helve and sunk a pitchfork into the mound of old straw–the tang of rot–my body was so thin, the muscles were mere ideas, tender, beautiful, and I thought the tines of the tool were beautiful too–standing in a dim barn that the weather roamed through I was stunned by a reverence for the edges men wielded, shears, mowers, for the straight lines they spoke between them, working so steadily, an ache

Mechanical features on the page and in language are thus set up as an antidote to humanist pieties that have come to feel shopworn or toothless. This turn activates the numeration and accounting that undergird poetic thinking in the first place. When we become aware of the regular stress of meter, or of the repetition of structures, we are reminded that language is an alien, patterned material, out of which the self, however intimate it may feel, must be continually remade.
