First day, and what hell of a first day it had been for Noah Dickens. Thankfully… after a brief miscommunication with his roommate, Iosif Wright offered to give him a real tour of the school – the student’s version of the school. The two boys had finally left the castle and were walking down the grounds - Noah was talking a million miles a minute, attempting to explain his entire life history to his roommate. Iosif was strolling beside him, with a slightly bemused grin on his face, his head only shaking.
“And this is where a bunch of kids tend to hang out during the fall, it’s really the only time it’s nice out here.” Iosif had lead them down toward the water. The grounds of the Academy really were ridiculous. Spanning over quite a few miles – the school was in the middle of nowhere, nice and secluded. Luckily enough the spot they were headed wasn’t that far from the actually building, bordering the beginning of the woods.
“We usually screw around, practice some, or if you’re Thompson, you walk around challenging everyone to sparring matches…” A grin on his face when a scowling Keera prowled past them, she shot Noah an appraising look. Noah’s eyes followed her as she went past and his head even tipped over his shoulder to check her out as she walked away.
“Yeah, right. She’ll kick your ass faster than you can breathe, Dickens… I wouldn’t even try.”
Iosif was right on the mark, of course he would know, she was his combat partner – but he neglected to tell Noah that, and it seemed as if his new roommate wasn’t going to take his word for it because he had turned around and was bolting after her. Leaving Wright with no choice but to follow him – if not only to watch the carnage.
“Hey… I’m Noah, I’m new, how’s it going?” The words tumbled from his lips before he could stop himself and he stared at the dark haired beauty that had turned slowly to look at him. For a moment disbelief crossed her face and she looked to Iosif.
Her dark eyes searched her partner’s and he was only grinning, nodding his head slowly. “Hey, I tried to warn him – the kid is persistent, and determined.” Right now he was going to explode, he couldn’t keep his shoulders from shaking while he was stifling his laughter. Keera looked so baffled. So confused, and for once she was actually thrown off.
“I mean… hey, I was wondering… I’m new… you wanna go out sometime?”
And Noah kept right on babbling.
Keera only simply shook her head while staring at Noah, still aghast she moved forward, her lips going to Iosif’s ear. “I. Will. Kill. You.” Leaning back from him she just looked back to Noah. “You have no chance around here-“
“- Oh he’ll be alright, have a little faith.” Iosif cut her off and the pair began to squabble, ignoring the fact that Noah was even standing at their side. At least until Noah’s hand slammed into Iosif’s shoulder.
Iosif looked from Keera to Noah who was gaping like an idiot, his jaw hanging open and his eyes wide. Following his gaze, Wright’s eyes immediately rolled. “Okay, he’s either suicidal or just really, really stupid.” He looked to Keera now before nodding at what Noah was staring at.
Keera turned enough to spot the blonde girl and she immediately burst into a bit of laughter. “Oh god, he’s not serious, right?” She was still giggling when she waved the girl over. “This is going to be even better.” She flashed a wicked grin toward her combat partner before elbowing the girl at her side.
Lillian’s brow cocked when she stepped up to the small group. “Who’s this?” Her eyes locked on Noah’s and she stared at him appraisingly, silent and cold, her face was completely unreadable, just how she liked it.
Noah was done right there. The moment her eyes met his, he was gone and there was no coming back. He could feel the air crackling between them, the energy, the connection, it was ridiculous, he was being drawn to this nameless girl… something about her… something about him, he just knew he needed to be with her. Not just now, or tomorrow, or next week. Forever. She needed to be his, hell she was his, even if she didn’t know it yet.
“I love you – I mean what? Noah, I’m Noah, I’m new – I go to school here – I have magic powers – I’m Noah.”
Silence, complete and dead air passed between the four as the other three all stared at Noah. What? After the long pause, Keera and Lillian burst into laughter at the same time, leaning against one another.
They were laughing at him, but Noah didn’t even care. He’d do it all over again if it meant he could see that smile… see those eyes light up and sparkle, turning to a light green… he’d do it all over again.
Noah didn’t realize he was still staring, nor did he realize the girls were walking away until Iosif jammed him with his elbow. “Well, sounds like you have a shot, doesn’t it?”
The new boy shook his head, still staring after the girls, particularly the blonde, he was holding onto Wright’s shoulder for support. “I’m gonna marry that girl…” With that his knees collapsed and he nearly fell down, having to rely entirely on Iosif to keep him up. “I’m going to marry her.”
"That's Graham, and yeah, whatever you say big guy. Though I'd watch yourself, Keera can kick your ass and make it hurt, but Lil will kill you without thinking about it twice. And I mean literally kill you.'
Iosif's warning and words were completely lost on Noah as he crumpled to the ground. The pair were out of sight now and he felt his heart thundering in his chest. "Oh God... I think I'm having a heart attack... is this a heart attack?" Whining out the boy looked up at Iosif who only stared at him with wide eyes. What in the hell was with this kid?
Noah only pointed to his backpack as he started gasping for air, holding his chest. Wright broke into survival mode and immediately ripped the bag from the shoulders of the other. Rifling through the front pouch he found an inhaler and a bottle of pills. Reading the bottle quickly he popped the tab off and forced two of the pills into the other's mouth. "Swallow!" Demanding the other, he shook the inhaler and quickly put it between his lips. "Now breathe." His voice was in control, but soothing at the same time as he pumped the medicine into his lungs.
As Noah gasped and regained control of himself, Iosif dropped to sit beside him, the two leaning to one another back to back. "Jesus you're going to be a handful aren't you?"
Noah completely disregarded Iosif's question as he leaned hard into his new roommate. "I can't live... I think my heart is broken. First day and I'm already broken..."
