In my fic "The Grand Enlightenment", Daisuke, Takeru, and Ken live in an apartment together and it is briefly noted that Daisuke and Takeru share a room.
Ever since I noted this in writing, I've had a "and they were roommates" plot bunny forming in my mind, and it led to me writing this scene - which is set right after the events of the fic, so beware if you planned to read that first!
This Daikeru scene is only an idea for now, written in dialogue form, but I wanted to share it. :)
Daisuke and Takeru enter their apartment and head to their room.
Daisuke: *stretches arms out* Man, what a night.
Takeru: *yawns* Yeah. I'm glad that secret is finally out in the open.
Daisuke: I'm really happy for them.
Takeru: Yeah, me, too.
*share a smile*
Daisuke: You taking the bathroom first?
Takeru: Nah, you can go first.
Daisuke goes into the bathroom, and a thought passes through where he wonders why Takeru didn't walk straight into the bathroom as he typically does. The thought quickly disappears as he washes up, yawns more. He walks towards his bed and it's Takeru's turn for the bathroom.
Daisuke takes his shirt off and throws it onto the top of his bed, which makes an odd creaking noise. He thinks nothing of it, and approaches his bed to lay down and turn in.
Except, as soon as he sits down, the creaking continues, and Daisuke feels the frame giving way. Quickly, he jumps up and out of the way before the bed frame breaks before him.
Takeru flies out of the bathroom.
Takeru: What happened?!
Daisuke: I have no idea!!!
Takeru: Are you alright?
Daisuke: I don't know! I almost died on my own bed! Does it look like I'm alright?!
Takeru: *Pauses and grimaces at Daisuke* Are you injured anywhere?
Daisuke: Maybe my pride, but at least no one else saw-!
Takeru: Daisuke, seriously-
Daisuke: Fine, fine. I'm alright! I guess I'll need a new bed but I'll figure it out tomorrow. I can sleep on the couch.
Takeru returns to the bathroom and Daisuke heads into the living room, finding that Mimi is sleeping there already.
Daisuke: I can't sleep there. Mimi's there, for some reason.
Takeru: Why is she sleeping here?
Daisuke: Beats me. You'd think she'd be taking the couch at Taichi and Koushiro's place.
Daisuke sighs and begins to sit on his bed but quickly stumbles back up.
Takeru: *laughs* You can sit on my bed, if you want.
Daisuke: *groans* So much for sleeping in the living room. I guess sleeping on the floor wouldn't hurt.
Takeru: ...You can sleep on my bed, if you want.
Daisuke: *stare*
Takeru: *stare*
Daisuke: And where would you sleep? The floor?
Takeru: There's room for the both of us.
Daisuke: Really?
Takeru: Really! *looks to his bed, hesitating* Well, you know, on second thought. Maybe you can take the bed. I can sleep on the floor.
Daisuke: Wait, what? Don't feel like you have to take responsibility for this. You didn't break my bed. And why are you being weird?
Daisuke is confused at Takeru's face turning pink.
Daisuke: I'm cool with sleeping with you- I mean. Next to you.
Takeru: Alright, then. Cool.
Daisuke: Cool.
Takeru: Cool.
Daisuke: Cool.
Takeru goes to lay in his bed, and Daisuke walks over to the light switch. He flips it for the room to go dark, and as he lays beside his roommate, he begins to wonder why his heart is beating so quickly.
For the fanfic ask game, could you do 🗑️, 💡, and/or 📌? also, i hope you have a good day!!
Hi Chloe! Hope you're having a nice day. 😊
🗑️What is one fic idea that you loved at first but then scrapped?
I had plans to write a Sorato fic that followed their relationship through the years. It was going to start on Christmas Eve when Sora made the first move with the cookies. I was going to write about Yamato’s struggles as an aspiring musician and the fic was going to end with him and his band playing in a huge stadium arena and it was going to be his greatest shining moment with Sora smiling proudly in the front row. And throughout all of this, Sorato’s romance/relationship was not going to be a smooth ride.
The title was going to be based off of a song by Elton John because I had it in my head every time I thought of this fic idea.
I think I just lost inspiration for it, partly because there are moments in my other fics where I feel like I’m taking from this fic idea. I’m not as motivated to write something I’ve already written.
Then again, I have a hard time letting go of ideas that have stuck around with me for a while. Who knows if I’ll end up reviving it or remixing it for a different idea.
💡What’s the weirdest thing you’ve been inspired by?
Right around the beginning of the pandemic, I came across a meme on Twitter: “POV: ur city is on lockdown. based on ur birth month, who [of the Chosen] r u stuck with?”
Somehow, I wrote a series of ficlets about being stuck with each of the 12 a la DigiDestined Lockdown. It was a comforting thing to write at a time when the world seemed to turn upside down and I wanted that creative distraction.
I'm saving 📌 for another ask! Thank you so much for sending me some emojis 🥰
Here are the list of q’s, answers under the cut because this got looong.
15 - If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
28 - Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much. (hint: Taiora writers)
32 - How do you feel about smut?
40 - Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one). (hint: alternate ending to “Just One Drink”)
15 - If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
I’m going to choose Digital Recovery. It’ll probably be three films and each will have extended editions because there’s so much that needs to be developed with each of the 8 chosen’s backstory and how they overcome their individual obstacles.
I might be overexaggerating but it would definitely be nice to see.
28 - Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Mmmmmmm it’s hard to choose. There are a lot of amazing writers out there and I try to read fanfics to give them the love they deserve. I should really just point you to my #noctisreading tag and you’ll find plenty examples. This one-shot list gives you more, too.
But I know how you love Taiora so I should name three that write Taiora. :D I’ve been following them for a few years now.
@makeyourlifehappy8 She has an epic long fic and is currently writing the sequel. She has an eloquent style of writing and impressive use of first person and multiple points of view. And fantastic Taiora moments. And her OCs are amazing and well-developed that you love them as much as the chosen children. FFN Profile
Moonphasing @lunaphasing She has plenty of Taiora fics I’ve read (I’m not done) that focus on romance and comedy but don’t miss out on The Darkest Shade which is a dystopian/sci-fi AU. I love her style of writing please read her stuff. FFN Profile
Music Chick @renchan7 I’ll. Always. Find. You!!! That was such a fun AU. If you like Taiora and Sorato, you’ll also like her array of romance and fluff. There’s also one Taiorato love triangle she wrote that nearly ripped me apart. And yes, I love her writing style too!! FFN Profile
32 - How do you feel about smut?
I think it’s fun to read, and it’s fun to write. The thing is, I can’t write a fic with just smut. There has to be character development. There has to be a plot with a backstory. I can’t post a smut-only fic. If you ever see me do that, then it means that I may have achieved something.
40 - Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).
I had a hard time choosing a fic to write an alternate ending for. I’m just going to choose “Just One Drink”, the end of the second chapter, and I’ll give you the summary of what I had in mind going down this alternate path:
Instead of striking a deal with Taichi, before leaving his apartment, Sora declares that she will put in a letter of resignation. Her mind is a mess and she doesn’t want to see Taichi any more than she needs to. She ends things with him at that point.
Once she quits she begins a new job hunt. She somehow keeps running into Taichi. She decides to go to a different bar on the other side of town - he’s there. She’s back at his place and tells herself this is the last time.
That happens a few more times until she finally says “no more!” And by that point she got hired at a new company and he congratulates her. She wishes him the best but she also wishes for herself that maybe if things were different they would start dating. He doesn’t want to date.
At her new job she has to sit and wait in the lobby until her boss walks out and greets her. When the receptionist announces that her boss will show up soon, she stands up, ready to greet them. But the door opens and Sora goes, “You’ve gotta be kidding me.”
This "made-up fic title" prompt brought to you by Sorato.
The more I do these, the more long-winded I get.. bear with me 😘
You know how whenever you decide to turn the tv on and flip through channels, there's that one movie that is always playing? ALWAYS?
It annoyed Sora that this romantic comedy movie played on tv all the damn time. Even worse, she ended up watching it the whole way through.
It was first released sometime in the 80s, and her first glimpse of it was when she left her room for a snack one evening and caught it on TV as her mother watched it. Her mother was engrossed by it, which wasn't a surprise when it came to cheesy films like that. The oddest part about it to Sora was when the female lead shouted to the male lead, "Keep making my heart happy, doofus!"
No one ever says that! Sora thought as she brushed it off and went back to her room.
One day after school, she ran into Yamato, who she hadn't talked to in a while. Tennis kept her busy, and he's off with his bandmates, you know the drill. It was really, really nice to see him, she thought to herself. He went on and indulged to her about performing for small crowds, how awesome it was when it got loud. Then he stopped himself and laughed a little as though he was embarrassed.
"I'm sorry. I probably sound like a doofus."
Sora looked at him, stunned that he said that word, but startled to giggle. She found his love for rock music interesting, and she found him really, really cute.
He said he would invite her to his next lil gig whenever it happened.
The following weekend, Sora was home alone, and she flipped through channels… and wouldn't you know it, that movie was on again. She changed the channel immediately.. then changed it back. She watched it. She admittedly never sat through a romance movie. Normally she watched an action adventure type with Taichi and the others, but not like this movie.
The movie didn't seem like anything special; just a coming of age movie where two teens fell in love. One night after their shenanigans with friends the boy got dropped off at his house first. The girl yelled that silly line from the passenger window as her friend drove the car away.
The line came up again and again as an inside joke between the two until the end of the movie as the leads are adults, when the male lead brought out a ring for the female lead, and he asked, "Does this?"
Sora's mom returned home just as Sora wiped her tears from her eyes. Her mom asked if she thought it was a good movie and her reply was, "No it wasn't!" even though she knew deep down she liked it.
Yamato called her that evening and asked what she was up to, but she said she was busy doing homework because she got distracted (without telling him about the movie). A few moments later after they hung up, she called him back and asked him to hang out with her the next day.
They're going to hang out one or two more times before there's a scene in front of Yamato's apartment complex where Sora will call him a "doofus" before she kisses him first.
She'll watch that movie in its entirety sometime after that, and in a different light since she's dating Yamato.
And by the time they're in university, Sora and Yamato will be visiting each other more, and Sora will be leaning against him on the couch as they watch TV. She will stop at the channel where the movie is playing once again. "You must really like this movie?" he will ask, and she will deny it as she makes him sit through it and watch it with her.
So Taichi has become a bit of a grump ever since he started his internship at the United Nations office in Tokyo (he's working his way to become a diplomat!). I might write this as a chronological series of the nights he comes home and interacts with Hikari, who he shares an apartment with. Set after Taichi graduates university. It would be in Hikari’s POV and would show a lot of their brother-sister relationship.
Taichi loves his position in that he gets to interact with people from different countries and cultures. But this is all at his desk on the phone, or sitting in the back watching a video conference. He only has to do it for a year or so, but it annoys him that he can't do more.
"You're such a grumpy pants," teases Hikari, who has been working as a preschool teacher. She explains that normally he's grumpy after a hangover but she jokes that he wouldn't be drinking on the job.
"I'm not that big of an idiot," he'll say.
"But you are an idiot," she'll retort. "You can't even send a coherent email to your crush."
She refers to a past instance, but the burn still stings because nothing has changed.
One day, he comes home and he's smiling and Hikari wants to know why. He won't tell her and she follows him around the apartment asking him and Taichi has fun with teasing Hikari by keeping his mouth shut.
He's in a good mood like that for the next week, and Hikari compares him to a kid who finally got his favorite toy. On a Friday evening he arrives home and tells Hikari she doesn't have to make dinner for him and that he's going out to celebrate that he was selected for a permanent job at the UN.
Hikari is surprised that he didn't tell her sooner. The job was her guess as to why he's been so happy all of a sudden.
He kisses her forehead and says she's only the second person he's told and he hadn't even told their parents yet.
When Hikari asks who was the first, there came a knock on the door. Taichi heads to the door and it's Sora.
He kisses Sora and she blushes that he did that in front of Hikari, but he tells Sora not to be so shy because it's only Hikari.
Sora and Hikari share a hug, and Sora invites Hikari to come along to dinner with them and so does Taichi, but Hikari politely declines. Taichi has his arm around Sora and suddenly they're bantering about some silly little thing.
"It's not the end of the world, Mr. Grumpypants," Sora says, and Hikari snorts and Taichi gives her a stare.
But as Taichi and Sora leave, Hikari realizes that Taichi must have told Sora about his job selection first, and that he finally made his move to ask out Sora, his best friend and long time crush, which was the real reason why he's been so happy.
Hikari was glad to see Mr. Grumpypants fall in love
Made-up title ask: Effervescent Fires. (I promise I'm not being mean I just think effervescent is an underrated word.)
Effervescent Fires. Like in Howl's Moving Castle! :D
This one is so good. How would I write this fic based on the title? I'm going with "effervescent" meaning lively or bubbly.
I could see myself writing Digimon Mimato (Mimi x Yamato) romance longfic with this one. And I’m going to go ALL IN with metaphors and references to the title. Mimi has that bubbly personality while Yamato is cool - he keeps to himself and sometimes bottles things up. On good days, them being together is like the cool drink that fizzes over ice as you sip it on the beach. Refreshing.
But on bad days it's Mimi on fire. She screams and cries against ice cold Yamato who keeps his walls up and is too stubborn to give in. But the more she rages, the further he is pushed to the edge until everything he has bottled up explodes.
Sora will tell Mimi time and time again not to lose patience with Yamato. Yamato will seek advice from Jou because he's not as bossy as Sora can be, and Taichi will pester Yamato with jokes (but when he does give advice it's really meaningful).
Both Yamato and Mimi know they're not perfect. But by the end they're still together, Yamato lets his walls down and they both try to work it out. Mimi doesn't understand him sometimes but she always wants to see the good in things and it puts things in a different light for Yamato and he is grateful for that. Therefore, Mimi is the fire that can melt his icy heart and that brings him joy. Mimi is Yamato's effervescent fire.
Something like that x)
I also read this on Google: "If someone says you're effervescent, it doesn't mean you're gassy!" LOL. Being that Yama's a lead guitarist and vocalist of his band, he’s going to write a song about Mimi and use that word. Mimi will visit Sora and whine to her about it as she stares at her glass of champagne. Taichi will look up this exact search result and read it aloud. Mimi and Sora will stare at him and Sora will force him to leave.
