Meet ALARIC (Erik Jakob Lauridsen). They are 842 years old and hail from DENMARK. Alaric embodies the constellation, NOCTUA and the planet PLUTO. They use he/him pronouns. Alaric teaches ASTRONOMY and HISTORY OF MAGIC at Polaris. Their faceclaim is NIKOLAJ COSTER-WALDAU.
PLUTO reminds me of gazing up at the stars, keeping your memories in a jar, the flash of a sword, the pierce of blue eyes that prick your soul, a red thread of fate, becoming BFFs with William Shakespeare, the smell of an old book, leather armchairs, optimism, the roar of the 20′s.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Denmark in 1238, Alaric is simply named Alaric. His memories of his parents are faded, as they were killed in battle ten years after his birth. He was raised to be a soldier, a fighter, and he was damn good at it until he hung up his armor and called it a day. Alaric fought in many wars over the years, from the Crusades to the American Revolution to World War II. If you look closely at photographs, you might see a familiar, haunted face of someone who has seen the past and the future. But nobody really looks closely.
Alaric is no stranger to death, as he’s watched every single person in the world that he loves pass away. It started with his parents, and slowly worked its way through his entire family. Alaric will never admit it, but he’s extremely lonely. He roams the earth as a sole viewer of its beauty and magic, but anyone he’s ever wanted to share it with has, y’know, died. Alaric doesn’t view death as a finality, especially considering he’s encountered many souls in various forms. He has a dog, a faithful companion who he has kept with him for very many years.
Alaric is blessed and cursed with the gift of time magic. As an air element, it’s one of the more uncommon gifts that he can possess. Alaric has learned quite a few aspects of time magic, including remote functions and time travel. He is quite good at putting “pause” on someone when he needs to escape a situation, but muting them is even better. However, the time travel aspects are slightly more difficult, and have taken a toll on him over the years. One unfortunate side effect is that he, quite literally, had to rip apart the fabric of time in order to hop around the time line as he pleased. This led to Alaric having major issues with his hands, causing lots of scarring and other forms of damage to them. He’s a little insecure about them, so you’ll rarely find him without gloves. Once, in his travels, he met a witch who existed solely to make weaponry and magic devices for other witches, and explained to her exactly what he needed and why he needed it. She made him a scythe that is enchanted to rip apart the fabric of time for him. Alaric frequently uses the scythe to channel his magic, and likens himself to a “more personable Grim Reaper,” we hate him.
Before it was retired by the rest of the world, Noctua had sponsored Alaric in his earlier years because of his profound wisdom and skill as a spellcaster. Because of this, Alaric has an entire collection of pet owls. No, seriously, he owns about seven of them. Some people collect cats or dogs, his shtick is owls. Even when he sees an owl, he will freak out and go: OMG, AN OWL. I’m Alaric.
Unsurprisingly, Alaric is also gifted with teleporting at will and invisibility magic, so that he can go undetected when he visits other timelines. He is a gigantic ass nerd and will talk your ear off about Ancient Egypt or the 1920′s if he wanted to. He’s pretty sure he’s Jay Gatsby in another life, don’t burst the bubble for him. It’s no shock that he teaches the History of Magic course, and he’s also totally the type of professor who dresses up as various witches when it calls for it. He’s ridiculous.
Astronomy is a class that came to him recently, and he enjoys it, mostly because he’s a night owl but also because he’s always been good with science and physics. As a result of taking on Astronomy, he’s purchased several high-end telescopes and turned the astronomy tower into a living planetarium, so to speak.
Despite his lone wold persona, Alaric makes a good show of being extroverted. He’s extremely chipper, very personable, and could talk to a brick wall if you decided to let him do so. He masks his loneliness extremely well with sarcastic remarks and his seemingly unfailing optimism. Don’t let it fool you, though-- on the inside, he’s keeping everyone at an arm’s length to tide away the hurt of losing someone.
People in the town think of him as the town historian. He goes by Erik Lauridsen to them. Most students at Polaris call him Professor Lauridsen. His colleagues call him Alaric.
INCLINATION & PLANETARY MAGIC
Pluto, known in history as many things-- the Underworld, the forgotten, the planet that’s not actually a planet. Pluto chooses those who are lone wolves in their lives. The current Pluto is seeking understanding and seeking purpose, which are also two defining qualities in a Pluto candidate. Mostly, Pluto feels like an outcast, especially because of their knack and ability for time magic.
CONNECTIONS
The One: Alaric has followed her to the ends of the earth and plans to do so for the rest of his life, no matter how many times he has to watch her die and be reborn again. #otp #redthreadoffate
Favorite Student: This is a student with an extreme knack for Astronomy or for History of Magic, and Alaric serves as a mentor to them.
Best Friend: Someone who he can be stupid with!!!!! Preferably another teacher. Alaric is super young at heart so he definitely wants to go on adventures with someone. This person would know all about his insecurities and potentially has a deal with Saturn to extend their life so they can brotp forever.
