Sirens blaring. It’s a different tone than the first time, but it’s a sound that only causes dread to grip the Jax’s heart as it starts to roar as loudly as the warning that was being cast across Vale and Beacon. The last time he heard those, he had just been a kid. The last time he heard those, he lost his sister and his family was forced underground. The last time he heard those, there had been nothing he could do.This time…this time was different.
❣- A memory that leaves them laughing
Noel returned from class that afternoon, only to walk in to her dorm and find a very odd sight before her. Both Reeds and Jax had apparently managed to sit still long enough for Eva to get copious amounts of make up on the pair. Reeds was adorned with glitter, and Jax had rather bright and obnoxious colors splashed across his face.
The way they looked, mixed with the unexpected shock of it all, reduced Noel to tears for minutes on end, while the boys just struck poses, clearly having no issue with what had transpired.
Around two-hundred years ago, there was a small tribe of nomads that traveled the land, never staying in one location for long out of fear of the creatures of Grimm hunting them down and overpowering them.
Until, that is, that this small band of travelers found themselves amongst an ancient looking forest. With trees that touched the heavens, and roots so large that they had to hit the center of the planet. The group stared in awe and fear, having never felt so small and insignificant in the fact of Mother Nature before.
It was here that the nomads decided to call home, and originally built their homes amongst the roots that curved and sprung forth from the ground like a living network. Unfortunately, they soon realized that even hidden and tucked away under these gargantuan trees, they were not safe from the monsters that hunted them.
So it was then decided that if they could not go down, then they must go up.
And so the nomadic tribe scaled the mountainous trees and started anew. It took some time, and a lot of trial and error, but eventually they found a way to make it work. Homes were built, bridges constructed, and deities prayed to for survival.
Things went well for them, and the slowly growing village eventually found its name: Tre Verndari. Tree Protector.
It was never just one leader either, once rules and regulations started to spring forth. It was a small council, typically comprised of six of the oldest people in the village--that still had a sound mind. Three men, and three women. If there were ever any major disputes, or important decisions that had to be made, it went through them.
This caused things to be done rather smoothly. Their various experiences, and older ages gave them an insight the younger failed to really understand at that time.
It wasn’t until much later, when the Great War erupted that things made any kind of shift. When word of fighting reached the village’s ears, people were torn. Do they leave and join in the fight for their kingdom, despite their isolation? Or do they stay, and do their best to ignore it all?
The council was torn and tensions were mounting, and thus Tre Verndari was attracting unwanted attention in the form of Grimm.
One day a fight erupted between each side, a fatal one that resulted in nearly twenty people falling to the jaws of their demise when the fight shifted on to a bridge that simply couldn’t hold the weight. All arguments about the war stopped after that, and the village fell off the map as they withdrew to mourn, learn, and grow.
When the war finally came to an end, a few were sent out to tentatively learn the state of the kingdoms. It was here that they met their neighbors, a land-dwelling town, and the two were quick to strike up an alliance. This was also the beginning of when the tree-top village began to seek help from Atlas to further improve their living conditions, and finally be brought up to speed on technology.
This was also the start for a few of the more curious citizens to leave and branch out to their own callings--whether that would be finding a new home, joining a certain organization, or attending specific schools. No matter the reason, Tre Verndari continued to flourish and grow under the newfound peace, and it has continued to this day.
Unfortunately, the fall of Vale has caused relations to the outside world to become strained once again. Luckily, they have learned from their history, and have taken measures to smooth out any bumps in the townsfolk before things get out of hand.
They do not want another war, but they are preparing for one should it happen.
Noel, what is the quality of houses and residential buildings up in your village? Are they only made of bark and trees, or have you brought up other building material? And are there any problems with insects?
“...Why would we use bark when we can use wood like most people do? We aren’t on our owns out there, we have supplies shipped to us rather frequently, especially if we’re in the process of expanding. The most we simply do with our builds is coat them in a special mixture to keep them from rotting due to weather.“
“As for insects, the mixture we use to keep the rot away from our homes also smells unsatisfactory to bugs. It won’t harm them, and it certainly doesn’t harm the trees either, it simply smells...bad.“
“Everything we have in my home is the same as yours. It simply isn’t made of skyscrapers with windows all over the place, and is off the ground.“
7. First crush?“An older kid in my village. I thought he was cute and mature.“
8. First love?“One of my teammates when I originally left to train to become a Huntress. We were both new to the world outside our original homes. So it was easy for us to draw a connection with each other. That love hasn’t faded either, simply changed meaning.“
9. First time?“Admittedly, it was with my rival, so to speak. We were on friendly enough terms, but most of it was harsh to spur each other to keep trying to do our best. One training session simply escalated.“
6. First pet?M: “I’ve never had a pet...“N: “A sugar glider named Pixie.“
21. Last time you spoke to your family?M: “Talked to mom this morning. Dad...two months ago?“N: “I talked to the family about a week ago when I was home last.“
