i saw a post saying that phillipe was the only person to see/treat henriette as a real person (in reference to louis simply using her as a political tool) and i thought it was interesting because i think it is and isn't true (mostly isn't)
because there were many times where phillipe didn't even treat henriette as a human. he used her as a pawn against louis so many times. e.g when he raped her after he got pissed off with louis and realised she had been with him etc. there are obviously many other more tame moments than that but i think that was one of the worst/extreme things he did in this regard.
but i also see how it's true too. henriette and phillipe were continuously fucked over by louis and there were times when they were united in that feeling.
phillipe also saw through henriette and knew that she was pushing herself (mentally and physically) just to please louis even when she denied it, and phillipe took a stand for her.
so there were definitely moments where phillipe treated henriette as a person more than louis did at least.
and honestly i really do want to say that phillipe cared for henriette. he was distraught when she died and he stood up to his brother countless times because of what he was doing to henriette but at the same time, seeing everything that phillipe did to her it's sort of like well idk...
their relationship was definitely complex but a lot of it was phillipe projecting his insecurities and hate about louis onto henriette
