Belated 10th anniversary!
I haven't seen a playthrough of Fire Emblem Fates in years, but I do remember enjoying the playthrough of Conquest I saw. Conquest is still my favourite route, because Nohr is simply more interesting to me than Hoshido. Also, I'm of the opinion that blood isn't always thicker than water. At least not in the metaphorical sense. Corrin was raised in Nohr, so they fundamentally should side with Nohr over any other side. Why sell out the siblings you grew up with for ones you lost when you were maybe only two years old? It just doesn't make sense to me. Even if I learned my dad wasn't my birth father, I'd still feel attached to him. And that shows where my bias comes from.
So I can't understand the appeal of any route besides Conquest, because I also found Revelations very boring. Conquest is better written to my memories, and my only complaints are that Takumi didn't survive and that they had so many forced and shoehorned references to Awakening with crossover characters and everything. I found that boring, because I didn't even love the characters they chose to import on the nohrian side. Well, I do like Owain/Odin. But I don't care about the other two.
So there are many things I would've liked to have seen done differently. If they were going to make a revelations route, I'd still make it more compelling than it was. Because I only remember being bored for the whole playthrough of Revelations. But I feel like Conquest wasn't perfect either. And yet I do like almost all the characters I remember. The nohrian royal family was fascinating to me. Xander, Camilla, Leo, Elise and even the main villian in the form of the reanimated or possessed corpse of King Garon. I liked a lot about it, although my memories are hazy enough that I'm sure revisiting it would make me feel less positively. Still, I basically like what it did. I'd have just changed a few things, and my changes largely have nothing to do with characterization.
My contributor copy for Noblesse Oblige, a Nohr Family zine has arrived! The gorgeous gold foil, merch, and zine is beyond amazing. My fic features all sibs but mainly focuses on Leo & Elise’s journey to the underground city and their duty to the people. 💜 🖤
