My Answer as to why we haven’t found other life in the universe
We need to take into account a few things here
1. Light takes time to travel, Example: a photon of light takes around 8 minutes and 36 seconds to reach our planet. So, we see our sun as it was 8 minutes and 36 seconds ago.
2. Humans have been around for 200,000 years which is but a blip in the universes history as our universe is nearing 13.8 BILLION YEARS OLD
3. Humans only harnessed the power of electricity to produce light in 1882. So out of 200,000 years we only were able to produce light from electricity in the last 150 years let’s say.
Now our galaxy the MILKY WAY is 105,700 light years across. Meaning the light we’re seeing from the opposite end of our galaxy is from.... you guessed it 105,700 years ago.
The MILKY WAY is also 13.51 billion years old.
So there could have been potentially lots of life forms that have sprung up in our galaxy which have evolved and left or perished do to extinction events etc but for us, humans, to be alive at the EXACT SAME TIME as another species who are also within the bracket of intelligence to produce their own light from say electricity? The Probability is minute.
Even if that species was able to produce light similar to us, we would of had to evolve around the same pace but even then the light would have to travel vast distances to reach us
If we saw a planet that was lit up like a Christmas tree from halfway across our galaxy, that light has still took 50,000 years to reach us.
Maybe life is there in other galaxies but we would literally never know because of the massive distances between them and us.
Andromeda for example is our closest neighbouring galaxy and it’s 2.5 MILLION LIGHT YEARS AWAY
If we was to see signs of life from andromeda now, in the year 2019 the light we’re seeing is from 2.5 million years ago. Anything could have happened to that species in that length of time. Evolution, extinction, you name it.
So as shit as this post is the reason I believe we haven’t found any other life forms or signs or anything for that matter is because the universe is so fucking big and because the vast distances that light has to travel, their light simply hasn’t reached us yet.
