Happy truce to @noip13, who asked for Danno using his powers in human form. I'm so sorry it's late and not all that good, my tablet broke on me and I haven't done anything traditional in a while 😓

noip13 replied to your post “I just found your firelord!zuko fic on ao3 and I have to agree to much...”
"next atla fic"? dude i am very excited for zuko failing at romance, trolling!iroh, and most of all, THE FLOOF
I was lagging on this fic but the brief mention of the floof brought me back to life
Based on your posts about monsters, have you checked out orange marmalade? It’s a romance webcomic about vampires having to live incognito in the human world because of prejudice, and the main character is a vampire girl. It’s very sweet, although I can’t help but worry it’s going to also miss the mark for you. Still might be a worth a shot though
I think I read some of it a few years ago, but couldn’t get into it because there was too much romance/not enough monster content
fanfic recs?
Here's a fic rec list by @tunafishprincess. It contains most of everything you'll need.
Some of my personal recommendations, however, are:
The Eclipse of Morgan Le Fay by a user named Guixi, though it's been discontinued since January of last year. A favorite of mine that I'm sad to see has been dropped. It's the show from Claire's perspective, but with some truly heart-stopping canon divergence added in.
Self-Determination by my best friend, @appendingfic. It's well-paced, the characters are written well, the fight scenes are awesome, and the twists WILL knock you off your feet. It's also a crossover bonanza, so it's really fun to read. Still ongoing, and still stepping all over my grave. Yeah, this fic series killed me a few times.
Jésus's "Date", or The Reason "Drew" Is Asked Out Exactly Once by @noip13, which was a gift fic! For me!!! It's short, hilarious, amazingly written, and it STILL makes me snort. Thank you, noip, for this contribution to the fandom.
in the hearts of men also by @noip13! A ficlet that should speak for itself. It's good, it's great, it's everything that you could ask for when someone suggests "fix-it". It's a discussion and an exploration on how the world of the TOA-verse could handle the fate of the changelings all around the world. Very introspective.
Adjustments by my good friend, @chillahead-bridge/@onthespectrumwriting. It's supremely underrated, which is CRIMINAL. Please please please take a read! Spec puts so much effort into all their fics and they're all so GOOD! This one includes: Jim and Claire angst, great Nomura characterization, more interesting takes on troll culture, biology, and sociology, an exploration of the kinhood between Claire and NotEnrique, and so much more! Now THIS is a fic that'll knock your socks off. Well, every other fic here will, anyway.
I also suggest checking on fics by @im-the-king-of-the-ocean, @magic-and-moonlit-wings, and @tunafishprincess - there's too many to list, so just check out their AO3s!
I'd link to and describe like, five other multichapter fics (Blue Moon Rising, Eclipsing Daylight, Becoming The Mask, Withhold, & If The World Were Upside Down), but they're all huge in the fandom already and you can find them in the fic rec list I linked right at the beginning of the post.
You'll find that this fandom, despite its size, has so much content of many varieties to offer. Hopefully, I can start consistently offering mine.
Have a good day!
(hey, so i've decided screw propriety, i'm bringing me and my trashy love for troll!jim straight to your blog) if you're cool with questions about your fic, could you talk about why you chose to give trolls such over the top protective pack instincts in "adjustments"? like, the logic behind it. thank you so much! :D
omg hell yeah i want questions about my series. i love talking people’s ears off about this fic!! (which i apologize for not updating lately; i have huge commitments to a different fandom rn)
what you’re probably asking about is jim and notenrique’s behaviors thus far in the fic. basically, right now their protective instincts have gotten riled up because nomura and claire were injured. usually they’re pretty chill guys, right? just not when partners/kin are hurt.
how i’ve imagined the troll instincts in canon is like…. you know how the troll society is very aggressive, right? fighting is common place, and intimacy is nonexistent in public. i’ve headcanoned that partially because of base instincts and partially because of such an environment, trolls form very tightly knit family units, and are wired to do anything to keep them safe. its less a pack, more a clan, on the account that they are a civil society. which i’ll get into as the series progresses.
what jim hasn’t figured out yet in my fic’s canon is that claire is not only a partner, but a bonded partner, which is like being troll-married. i covered that a bit in my precursor fic to Adjustments, Reunions, regarding blinky and arrrgh’s relationship. a partner getting hurt is one thing, but your bond getting hurt? the point when i get to write toby or claire being grievously injured will be a happy day for me, because that’s enough to send a fully competent and reasonable adult troll on a rampage, let alone a half-troll who’s barely sixteen and has never dealt with these kinds of instincts.
kin getting injured can do that, too, which is why notenrique tore into someone’s hand right after claire was injured, and was so pissed at jim for trying to push him away from claire in her time of need. also, the reason jim tried that was because he didn’t really recognize that notenrique and claire had that type of relationship. he gets it (a little) now, and probably won’t do that again. partners coexist with each other’s kin with relative ease, since there’s firm trust built between all parties and the assurance that they’ll have one another’s backs when there’s threat to the clan. (and kin don’t have to be your hatching family. they can be people you’ve adopted as such. ie: jim and blinky, notenrique and claire.)
uhhh point being, trolls are only emotionally and physically vulnerable with extremely select people. they can have plenty of close friendships and such, but its only partners and kin they show their weak points to. someone intruding on that is not just really offensive, but hella scary to experience. to be seen as weak is not just disgrace in troll society, but kind of like becoming an easy target for attack, marked as prey, almost. ie: draal, unofficially banished from the market after losing to jim, taking refuge with the trollhunter until he could rebuild his reputation.
it wasn’t explicitly stated, but it sounded like draal had choice between hiding out with his defeater or dealing with potentially serious danger from the market. this bit here is sorta pack like, i’ll admit. draal got knocked out of his position and chased off the territory, and had to work his way back into the fold. the bonus was that he and jim ended up kin somewhere along the way, though jim won’t feel the full effect of that relationship until later in Adjustments.
um. i suppose this might have been more than you expected. end result is that i just like writing them like this, tbqh. all the puzzle pieces i’ve collected from canon point towards these sorts of behavior in my opinion, so… my imagination runs amok with headcanons.
apologies for the length, i hope this answers your question!
I'm curious, you've done a ton of time travel stuff where Desmond goes into the past, have you ever thought of doing time travel where one of the ancestors ends up in the future?
Tbh future is boring. And there aren’t enough events or characters to really make it more interesting. If you bring an ancestor into future, then... what? They acclimate to the future and just become quirky person from the past or they will spend their entire lives hiding. You could have some character drama at most, but probably not much in way of action that would actually affect the world as whole. You bring person from future in to the past and they have huge range of ways they can change everything just because of what they know of basic everyday common sense. You bring person from the past into future and they’re kind of just... a curious thing out of time. Eh. it just doesn’t appeal to me.
I know you haven't been posting much lately, so just wanted to say I hope you're doing okay and that life is going well. :)
Ah, hey I appreciate this <3
I’m still here, and life’s been going pretty good lately. I’ve been lurking online a lot more so I can focus on IRL stuff and not stress over internet stuff.
In the last--let’s see--month or so, I moved into my first apartment and started working full-time. It’s been real nice actually. I like having my own room to come back to at the end of the day, and I like my office and coworkers, and I like biking to and from work every day. I’ve got a real nice river-side view from my apartment and along my commute. Also my apartment has a dog park right outside. I’ve seen so many good doggos there.
I’ve been keeping up with BNHA at the gym (in the basement of my apartment, which is very convenient). I’ve been making good progress on my project at work, even though I’ve still got a lot to learn, and I actually might be nearing production with (half) of my project. It’ll be a pretty visible change too.
Thanks for the ask--it’s real nice to be considered.
you asked for fic recs? :) "vagaries and vicissitudes" by aud_k is an absolutely inspired little fic about pre-hogwarts harry and the dursleys. literally anything by lullabyknell--i would rec "face death in the hope" to you, but i already did a while ago. oops. also, arabella's "the very secret diary", uploaded onto ao3 by bormuschel. it's an absolutely enthralling transcript of ginny's diary during cos--tears your heart to bits. i'm sorry you're not in a good place right now-i hope fic helps :)
Thank you, but also: how could you possibly rec that first one? My heart hurts so much. Oh my god.
