Wednesday, November 8th:
It’s raining again. Been raining for weeks now. Maybe years. Sure feels like it; time seems to flow like molasses when everything’s grey. The clouds, the buildings, the streets… even the people seem to be wrapped in a shroud of grey. It’s depressing. I guess that’s why there’s so much crime; a welcome distraction from ——
A dame bursts into my office, screeching. She’s got legs. Legs that go all the way up. All legs, only legs. A ball of legs. Some men would say she’s got too many legs, but I’m not some men. She’s truly a creature, shambling frantically around the office, panicked noises and grunts coming from a seemingly nonexistent mouth. Legs come from everywhere, flailing, knocking over the chair and kicking me in the face. She crashes through the wall, slinking back into the dark.
Her brother is missing. I’m on the case.
The rain fell, dark and heavy, like a hammer blow to the city. The night was cold, and no one in their right mind was out. I trudged down the sidewalk, past the dark alleys and the boarded up shops. This was the bad part of town. The wrong side of the tracks. The place where anything was liable to happen, if you didn't watch your back...
