In my mind, his character's name is Greg and he's just out of school, trying to make his way in the world. His friends are mean to him but he's rooming with one of them and needs his McDonald's job to pay the rent. He's barely scraping by, but he works his way up to manager and, when his room mate is laid off, Greg offers the room mate (let's call him...Jack) a job. Greg is a standup guy. :)
