So yesterday, when working on various stuff I was working on my AppNana app and posted an update to Tumblr. I, understandably, got a friend who poked me about it, since they were worried that my Tumblr account might have possibly been hacked. Unfortunately, I was so dead tired yesterday from traveling that I didn't get to addressing this until now.
AppNana is a service that credits people for downloading certain apps and trying them out. There is also the ability to receive credit (Nanas) for adding friend codes and sometimes watching videos or completing "tasks," but the primary way to receive them is downloading the apps. You also get 400 Nanas a day for logging into the app. (It appears that this is more "1 24-hour period," and that the timer resets at the time you initially log into the app.)
Users can then redeem the Nanas for various gift cards. The types of gift cards one can redeem varies by where you live, but there is still options available worldwide. From what I've seen, the longer you save the more you get when you redeem, but then, of course, the trouble is getting to that amount.
With the apps, they tell what needs to be done in order to receive the award. Sometimes it's simply Install + Run, but for some games I've seen Install + Play To Level 3. After you've received the Nanas for the task, you can go and delete the app from your device.
AppNana runs on both Apple and Android. Last time I looked you need at least iOS 6 to run it (which is why I couldn't use it until I got my Note 3, since my iPad runs on iOS 5.1.)
(First) Word of Caution, though: Since a lot of the better payers are games and are larger-sized apps, try to download them from a place with WiFi if you don't have unlimited data on your device.
A way to make [very small to small] amounts of money why you kill time
A way to make a ton of money really fast*
Free Lunch (There is no such thing as Free Lunch - there is always a catch)**
*I mean, I guess you could if you go down the Super Dangerous Path or are really fucking good with networking in terms of the adding friend codes,
Now, with any of these "collect points to get gift cards" sites, there are safe(er) ways of going about things and stuff that is super tricky. There are huge payouts available to people if they complete certain offers, subscribe to stuff, etc. I would strongly caution people to stay away from these types of things, because it's really easy to make a misstep and then spending a lot more money than you made in the offer to get out of it. So even though AppNana has huge payouts for getting a copy of one's credit report, subscriptions, etc, I don't bother with those because it's just not worth it to me. I stick to downloading apps and friend codes and the occasional survey. This is slower in earning Nanas, but it's a lot safer.
It also helps that I'm fully aware that this isn't going to become a source of income. For me, it's a great way to take a simple 5-10 minute break between filling out resumes, or when I just want to kill some time.
** There's also catches in how to redeem the points. For example, if you live in the US, there are options to redeem it as Amazon Gift Cards (among other things) and one can get 5% back in Nanas if they pick certain options. But at the same time if one waits for a higher payout, they'll spend less Nanas per dollar they get. And there's also the ability to get PayPal gift cards (aka Actual Cash), but there's no % back in Nanas. So, this works well if you need something anyways from Amazon, which in general is what I've been doing with other reward sites.
My other problem has been trying to get people to add my invite code, as once I put in an invite code I don't get the option to add more until 5 people have put in my code. I'm not sure if this is a Newbie thing (since I just downloaded AppNana yesterday) or if I have to do this every time, but it is a hurdle. But this doesn't stop me from earning Nanas from apps.
Honestly, all of this is a bit of a complicated game to play and I'm sure that not everyone would be willing to put up with it. But as I said, it's a nice thing to do to kill time and (eventually) get something you can actually use.
If you have any questions, you're more than welcome to ask me and I'll do my best to help. And, perhaps, the most important thing: if you do decide to download this, please input my invite code after you've reached 15,000 Nanas (this won't take long, I promise - it'd only be a few downloads). My code is g1550696.
(Also, if anyone is interested, I'll do a write up on the main site I use for this sort of thing - SwagBucks.)
