It's time to tell Hollywood how I really feel about our relationship.
Just Stop
So Anne Hathaway and Rihanna have signed on to the Sandra Bullock lead all female remake of “Ocean's 11”, entitled “Ocean’s 8”. Rebel Wilson and an actress to be named later will replace the iconic duo of Steve Martin and Michael Caine in a remake of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”. Walt Disney is remaking their 80s cult classic “The Rocketeer” with a yet to be cast African American woman. Add that to the “Ghostbusters” remake this summer, and I have to say, “Just Stop!” This going through hit movies of the past and saying “Let’s do it with chicks”, has to come to an end. What is accomplished? Not great roles for talented Actresses. No they are getting half-assed re-written roles for Men. I’m sorry I do not want Halle Berry in “Beverly Hills Cop”. Nothing against Ms. Berry, but no. Do we really need “Back To The Future” with Mary-Anne McFly traveling to 1993? Studios are chasing another “Bridesmaids”. You know that original script, written by a woman with women characters. An exceptionally funny film, with a cast that really works together, but not a rehash of a previous film, with the male leads replaced by women. And that is the true “women power” way. Summer 2016 is not over yet, but already we are looking towards Summer 2017. And I have to say, the one film I want to see… Wonder Woman. The trailer for this film was great. It looks like a fun time at the movies, yet it is clear this is a film about a woman, to inspire and delight woman. Rumors are Warner is looking to add a Harley Quinn lead film, plus a possible “Birds Of Prey” film to the DCEU. All which are female centric stories. That is what needs to happen, the goal should not be rehash male roles for women in some sort of warped “women's lib”. The studios and production companies should be looking to create new and original product. And when it takes a critique, relax. Remember SONY went on a campaign to say anyone who was against “Ghostbusters” was anti-woman, pictures with the cast and Hillary Clinton. The fact the trailer looked they wiped their butts with a beloved classic, irrelevant. Where are the real attempts to put together great women films, to really allow great actresses to be showcased together? Is it wrong to put together, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway and others in a heist film. No, with the right script it could be great. But an original story would be better. Robbing a casino, “Ocean’s 11 & 13” did it better. Now this is not a hard rule. In 1985 playwright Neil Simon reworked his “The Odd Couple” to be female centric. Not lying but I’d love to see a film with Zoe Saldana as Florence Unger and Kate McKinnon as Olivia Madison. And there are rumors Sly Stallone is looking for a female spin-off of “The Expendables” called “ExpendaBellas” (hopefully working title). If Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton and Michelle Yeoh are in it, I’m in. Last and the upcoming “Star Wars” films have female leads. And who knows, Marvel might make a Black Widow movie. And in case people want to call me sexists. Did anyone see that total waste of film was the “remake” of “Adventures In Babysitting” called “The Sitter” with Jonah Hill in the Elizabeth Shue role. And there is “Splash” being remade with Channing Tatum in the Daryl Hannah role. Oh that seems like a good call. Basically, Hollywood you want my money STOP THE LAZY!
That deserves a face palm
Me: So I read an article saying Fox is remaking the Rocky Horror Picture show...
Dawson: Why can't Fox hire me to slap them when they do stuff like that.
Where are all the original Movies?
I feel like all movies that come out now are either remakes or sequels. We don't need a remake 5 years after the first movie comes out, and not every hit movie needs a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movie. Where are all the original movies! I'm sick of remakes and sequels, they are almost never as good as the original anyway.
