Biggest upsets

Manda, the #24 seed, placed 7th. It defeated SpaceGodzilla (10), Destoroyah (9), and Gigan (8), who all placed below Manda in the end.

Ebirah, the #19 seed, placed 12th. It defeated Minilla (14) and Kong (3), both of whom didn't place in top 16.

Battra, a monster who has only appeared in one movie (Godzilla VS Mothra) and the #32 seed, the lowest in the tournament, placed 9th. After losing round 1 to Godzilla, Battra had a legendary Loser's run. Defeating Kamacuras (17), Rodan (6), Destoroyah (9), Baragon (16), and SpaceGodzilla (10). Battra's popularity may be attributed to a dark edgy design and its connection to the 1st place finisher, Mothra.

Biggest falls from grace

Of all the "Bozos", Minilla was the highest seeded at 14, losing to Ebirah (19), and, fittingly, Gabara (30). Minilla was high seeded mostly due to a high volume of film appearances, not necessarily popularity.

Rodan, the #6 seed, failed to place, tied for 17th like the 8 other monsters who lost in loser's round 2. Rodan won against Jet Jaguar (27), but lost to Shin Godzilla (11) and Battra (32), both seeded lower. As one of Toho's original Kaiju, this outcome really surprised me, likely due to the unflattering photo I used. I considered using his KOTM 2019 design, but didn't want to give Kaiju who appeared in the Monsterverse an unfair advantage, or open the floodgates for one-off titans to be added to the bracket.

King Kong, the #3 seed, also tied for 17th like Rodan. I know Kong's Toho suit is unflattering, but this one baffled me. Kong won against Gabara (30), but lost to Ebirah (19) and Destoroyah (9). The Ebirah loss still makes me scratch my head. Considering Kong isn't even owned by Toho, I don't sweat this result too much. Again, Kong would have likely done much better with a Monsterverse photo or even from King Kong (2005).

Well personally I'm a major multishipper, so I have a LOT of different pairings I enjoy seeing, all for different reasons.

I really like the (canon jumpscare) dynamic between Lilia/Meleanor/Ravurne... but that's just because I like doom. They suffer. Lilia can never catch a W everyone he loves marries someone else and then leaves him in charge of their kid TwT

In terms of "I actually want to see this romance develop, and be successful" I'd have to say Malleus x Idia? They just play off each other in so many interesting ways.

Like I also enjoy Silver/Idia and recently have begun falling down a rabbit hole of Vil/Idia (which there is NOT NEARLY ENOUGH discussion for. Y'all are missing some serious gold out here) but I like them for more or less the same reasons I like Malidia. So it all comes back to those two idiots.

Since I know we all love polls and brackets I've decided to create a tournament for the 2024 Pherson of the Year - inspired by the Time Person of the Year - where through democracy we will pick the person who has done the most for phannie culture this past year (we will be using the concept of person very loosely)
