“feeling any better?” you look up and see miles giving you a sympathetic look. you lift your head up slightly “a little but it still hurts”

you say softly trying not to move your jaw too much. “ you already took medicine right?” “yea” he sighs rubbing your head softly “ well tell me if you need anything”. “mhm”

Drabble #2

You smelt the damp that clung to the trees and the soil beneath your feet. The air was fresh but sharp and you could taste the rain in the back of your throat before you saw the dark clouds above the canopy.

Trees wound around and created a misty darkness, whether it was early morning or late afternoon was impossible to tell. The only thing that occupied your vision was the muted greens and brown of the undergrowth and the almost black tree trucks that were omnipresent.

You hoisted your body over a fallen log. Your foot gave out. You felt the sharp pull down before you could find leverage. A slight pain erupted from the places where your body made contact with the ground. The air escaped your lungs with a loud groan.

You laid there for a moment and looked up at the branches that interlaced themselves above your head. They were still as always and looked more like a spider's web than natural coincidence. It was peaceful. You rested your palms on your chest. That's all you wanted to accomplish in the first place. A moment of tranquillity. You closed your eyes and took in another crisp breath of on coming rain.

A cold pinprick landed on your hand. Another followed on your forehead. You opened your eyes and twitched your nose when one landed there.

You considered it for a moment. Getting up. Finding shelter. You had already walked an hour to get here. It would still be an hour in the rain regardless of when you made the voyage.

You were convinced anyway. That the rain only ever lasted long enough to coat the forest in the smell of fresh moss and disturbed soil.

You heard heavy boots approach from the other side of the log.

A face peered over. Pale and lifeless with long black hair that curled and glistened around it. Those dead black eyes bore into you but you were sure the eyes behind those were less cold.

More droplets started to fall and clammer for your attention but you paid them no mind.

"It's raining." Her voice floated in the air.

"I know."

One of her hands rose to her face and removed the mask. It contrasted with her skin in the dull light. Those warm brown eyes landed on you and you felt every beat in your chest.

"So is there a reason you're laying in the dirt waiting to be stuck in a storm or have you decided that you needed to out emo the rest of us." She swung her body over.

"Your one to talk. Distressed skinny jeans and a black leather jacket." You tried not to fidget your hands as a real smile took the place of the one carved into her cheeks.

She tapped her boots on the log with soft thuds. It started to pour. Heavily. You heard her voice but it was drowned out by the eruption of sound that burst around you. You were pinned down by the extra weight that had suddenly saturated your clothes.

You saw as Jane's figure lept over you. A slight slip but she recovered much better than you did. She crouched down slightly and offered a hand. You took it and were on your feet with a slight heave.

The cold only registered to you when you felt the warmth of her hand. So when she ran, you kept pace, you let her lead you through the winding trees and downpour. No idea where she would take you. You did not care either.

She gestured you down a slope, and you carefully made your way down to an organic ledge. The terrain went deeper still into a riverbed that thrashed with the newly added water.

She tapped your shoulder and nodded her head towards a wall of thick roots. You raised an eyebrow and shrugged your shoulders. You didn't know what she expected from you.

She walked forward. And carefully circled the thick roots as to not fall off the edge. She waited and you reluctantly followed.

Eventually you saw an open door. You walked inside and it was pitch black. You saw Jane in the dwindling light from outside and she closed it. The rain became all the more quiet and you could finally hear again.

"I can't see a thing." There was a shiver in your voice and you clung your hands together.

"Give me one second." You saw sparks in the dark and then a sudden bright light of a match. The room around you looked basic.

A candle on a stump was lit.

The room had pretty basic boards. A single bed. And random supplies shoved against the opposite side of the wall. It was basic but it's not like you could build any better.

"What is this place I've never seen it before?"

Jane dangled the mask by her side and shrugged.

"I don't know. I just saw a door. And that's weird as fuck out here so I opened it and hoped I wasn't going to deal with some supernatural bullshit. And now I hang out here."

You nodded. "That's pretty cool."

A long silence entered the space between you two.

"Um anyway." You start and get her attention. Water dripped off of both of you. "Wouldn't happen to have a change of clothes here?"

She grimaced. "Their going to smell bad." She gestured to the pile on the floor.

"They'll be warm." You murmur.

"Can't argue with that."

You grabbed the first shirt and pair of pants that would fit you and Jane did the same. She asked you to turn around when she got dressed and she responded in kind when the same request was made of her.

The rain continued, and you stunk of dust and mildew. So did she. And the bed. So when you were sat next to her, that's all you could focus on.

The silence felt more calm and peaceful. You tensed your hand. Then you decided to softly lean your weight against her shoulder.

She wrapped an arm around you. And that's how you stayed as it continued to rain.

I’ve chosen not to post your ask because the less attention placed on this person, the better.

If you recall, it was also around Christmas three years ago that this person’s “mentor” revealed herself.

I often wonder what would’ve happened had we simply amplified the truth this “mentor” told initially and ignored her outlandish claims, which she began spewing with a vengeance when she realized that she could attract far more notoriety and attention by changing her story to one much more salacious and destructive. Because haters love to hate.

As I’ve said before, the right thing to do when an actual crime has been committed is to file charges with the police and provide solid evidence of the crime, to support the claim with the proper authorities should one also seek to file a claim in court. Justice absolutely should be served but only if it’s warranted. And much more evidence than this is required.

Her protégé’s claim is vague, without specific evidence to support it, presented only to stir the pot of defamation once again.

The protégé is wearing a bathing suit and appears to be posing for the photo in question. She looks to have undergone a recent “cupping” treatment. It’s difficult to determine exactly what her grievance against the accused might be.

Regret is not a crime. Consent, or the denial thereof, is not retroactive. Objective facts are immutable. Vague implications are not facts.

And proclaiming a known delusional stalker and compulsive liar as her mentor serves only to discredit her claims.

Likewise, this “news” breaking from a source known to have a close relationship with the accused’s disgruntled aunt publicly feuding with the accused over the family fortune serves only to raise questions about the source’s credibility and motives.

Both the accuser and the person breaking the news are relying on people’s wild imaginations and need for titillation to fill in the blanks of the story the accuser is not actually telling.

Let’s not fall for that again.
