Got a house to look at on Monday. It’s at the upper end of our budget and a bit farther north than we’d prefer, but otherwise looks nice and we know we’ll have to compromise on some stuff in this stupid market. 3 acres, recent remodeling. At least it’s something to look at and resume our house search.

alright so I have adblock running because that’s great, but lately it has not been blocking the audio on whatever video ads Tumblr has running. I can hear the ads but not see them and it pisses me off. Yeah I have it muted most of the time but I still know the audio is going. wtf.

housing update since it’s been a while, and really it’s a “no news” update anyway

So yeah like I said really not much news on this. Short version for those new around here is that we’re trying to buy a property with my mom because a) she has the money for a down payment, we have the money for monthly payments b) for health reasons it would be best if she and my brother lived with/near us. c) the Denver housing market sucks balls.

Anyway. Talked with my landlord about our lease a few days ago and she casually mentioned that if we were interested in buying the property, they would consider selling to us. Which has apparently changed since the last time we talked about it they had no interest in selling this property, but that was about a year ago.

It was just a casual mention, we’d have to talk them more to see if they’re serious about it, what price they’d want, etc. Because this property would have to be something husband and I do on our own, the house is way too small to add my mom and brother. Landlords sold the house next door for $400k a few months ago, and that would really be pushing what we could afford on our own, unless we could cut some sort of deal about considering the rent we’ve payed up to now as part of the house payment. And they could have gotten more than $400k (most properties like that are $450-500+) but they wanted to sell it quickly and be done.

There are definitely pluses and minuses to this place. Plus is that it’s a nice location for both my business and husband getting to work in Denver, and we’re kind of established here. If we owned it I could do more to weatherize the agility ring. I’d like a building, but even just a covered roof would solve a lot. But a minus of this place is that we’re in a floodplain and the county we’re in is notoriously difficult for permission to build anything. We’re also right next to a busy major highway that is getting busier, and has plans to be expanded in a few years whenever CDOT gets the funding, and that would put the highway even closer to the house.

So yeah. It’s about 50/50 negative/positive. If we did end up buying this house it would probably be a place we’d just stay for a few more years while saving more money and building equity, hoping the Colorado market calms the fuck down, then buy something else. idk.
