How do Aja and Jim tell each other about their gender identity?

Firstly, sorry for letting this get lost in my drafts for a while *insert awkward laugh emoji I can’t find here*

Aja would probably mention theirs offhandedly.  On Akiridion-5, they’re significantly more relaxed about gender than people are on Earth.  So Aja has known for a long time that they’re the Akiridion equivalent of nonbinary.  Though, it would take them a while to realize they’d like to use they/them pronouns.  At first, Aja thought there wasn’t a significant difference between Earthling pronouns and that they all were interchangeable, but when they found out that pronouns are often associated with gender, they decided on their favored set (altho Aja also is fine with being referred to with either he/him or she/her pronouns too).  That conversation is also what led into them coming out to Jim.

At first, Jim didn’t come out to Aja.  He liked that they’d only known him as a boy.  He was scared that if she found out he’d once been something different, it would change the way they feel about him.  I think it would come up in a situation where Aja sees an old, childhood photo of Jim and ask him if he’d had a sister (excitedly - the idea of bonding with him over having a sibling thrills Aja).  Jim would hesitantly explain, and Aja would enthusiastically accept him.

You could have trans!Jim explaining pride flags and colors to nonbinary!aja. Akiridion doesn't follow the binary gender system that western society does so that's nothing new to Aja, but having each identity or orientation represented by multicolored stripes and flags, lively!

Aja loves pride flags, and especially doing creative things with their colors.

*for the purposes of this post, I will use they/them pronouns for Aja.

When they finds out what the nonbinary flag colors are, they get Krel to make them a sort of stereo system with attached light show that cycles through the colors whenever it plays.  Aja uses it all the time.  Softly at night, so the last thing they sees before they sleep is their colors gently moving across the ceiling.  Loudly during the day, when Aja’s going about their morning routine (or when they’re feeling down/is in the mood for some noisy pride).

Once Aja comes out to their friends (Mary, Shannon, Shannon’s gf, etc.), they all go to the mall together to help them pick out nail polishes that match their (and Jim’s - altho Aja doesn’t tell their friends that’s why they want the trans flag colors too, since that’s his truth to share) flags.

Later, Aja and Jim paint their nails together :D
