So we now have ivy enbies and oak enbies, but there are more ways to offer care and protection. thanks to @re-the-bear I was given some ideas as to how to expand this list. I want to break it up into caretakers and protectors, not to enforce any sort of binary, but because I think it’ll be more organized (and my hell brain needs compartmentalization)
Caretakers
Ivy- soft, comforting, coming home to loving arms after a hard day
Elm- sturdy, grounding, offering backup and urging you to be your nonbinary best
Protectors
Oak- strong, confrontational, standing up to transphobes and fiercely shielding other nb people from harm (always warm towards fellow enbies though)
Ash- steady, firm foundation, the backbone of our support
I think it’s important to include @re-the-bear ‘s own words on ash and elm, as fae is the one who coined them, and I merely interpreted the meanings- “Elm is bracing and sturdy, Ash is supple and good for tool handles. Elms seek to build up the community by building spaces for us; they moderate forums, & run blogs. Ashes are the workers, hands and feet calloused by hours spent volunteering or advocating or educating; they are the most likely to hold a BBQ for the community.”
