Little-known fact: in online RPG communities, there's a meme that if you have a character playing as Jaune, their rolls will be fucking unbelievable.
turns out it's true, i'll be writting a full story about this battle at some point but i'll put the rolls below, summary in jaune's first battle as a rookie knight he is brought along to fight the saxons at Mercrid Creek. in a battle that should have taken 5 hours jaune managed to punch directly through the Saxon center, take out two giants acting as bodyguards for the saxon war leader and then captured the fucker alive with the help of his squire oscar! granted a lot of what he did was because of his hatred of Saxons criting right at the start, but even then i fully expected him to get stomped by one of the giants. I guess that's just the power of racism
rolls under the cut if you don't believe me
@howlingday @weatherman667 any ideas for writting this out?
Battle of Mearcred Creek.

total glory is 600+ 60 glory for the two rounds of fighting
so i was inspired by a post made earlier today about jaune in different art styles so it got me thinking what would jaune Arcs story in the batman animated series be like.
to my mind jaune is a young man who's family was originally from france but fled the revolution being nobles and all, he was taught to fight by his father each of them passing down their familie's techniques with a sword and the family sword which dates back to Julius ceaser himself. the sword itself is made of a strange metal that fell from the sky (meteor) and is utterly unbreakable and able to cut through just about anything.
jaune takes up a vigilante persona after his friend Pyrrha is attacked by a criminal named Cinder Fall, but what starts off as a basic revenge tale quickly changes as jaune realizes that it's up to him to try and make Gotham livable. even if that means getting blood on the family blade.
The attack was committed by a group on the school of Beacon, something about hating the head master of the private institution.
pyrrha lived through the attack btw but was called back to her home to recover, we later find out that she's an amazon and clashes with her native culture over her care for jaune.
ren is a fellow swashbuckling vigilante, using a jian instead of an arming sword he takes up the balde to avenge his own father. in a lot of ways he's a mirror for jaune.
nora is a demigod of thor, she's just here to have fun. (it's the first rule of gun safety)
jaune is a better fighter than Batman but lacks his versatility and mind, he doesn't have a no kill rule though and generally deals with organized crime and their endless mercinaries handling threats that batman doesn't have time for and the cops just can't handle themselves, his skill at arms through has gotten him on the list of both batman and raz al goul.
it helps that he's just as rich as Batman, though. With Pyrrha being an amazon, there might be further issues when she's sent back to "bring her man to heel" like her mothers want. either way, the basic idea is that jaune's on a quest for vengeance, but is that all it has to be? Can he grow to be a great hero in his own right? Or is he destined to walk a blood-stained path to nowhere?
build under the cut
@weatherman667 here's the bare bones of a character, out of curiousity what would you do with swashbuckler jaune in gotham?
@howlingday do you think i captured post fall jaune well for trauma filled vigilante of gotham jaune? anything you'd wanna change? also anything you think would be neat for his story going forward?
origin: vigilante
Timm Design- Chiseled jaws, muscular physiques, and amazing curves… a lot of people here are ridiculously attractive! And if you're going to spend ten years here, you might as well look the part, right? Your body is now 'super' good looking, as if it was drawn by Bruce Timm himself. (Free)
Secret Identity- Oddly enough, it seems that people have trouble putting two and two together when it comes to your "civilian" and your "costumed" identities.
Even if you're the only person who fits the physical profile in the entire city, you can conceal your identity by playing dumb, wearing glasses, or even just slouching a little. This won't help if they have irrefutable proof of your double-life, but otherwise they'll just think it's a funny coincidence. (100 CPI free Bat- family/Vigilante)
Friend Of the Police- Vigilantism, even in a city menaced by super criminals, is still technically illegal; luckily, the police and other law enforcement seem to look the other way when it comes to you, so long as you're not committing serious crimes while crime fighting. In addition, if you capture a wanted criminal or find evidence of a crime, the police will be able to use your work without laws getting in the way. (100 CP, free Bat-Family/Vigilante)
Nightmare- Knowledge of you- specifically the parts that would scare the pants off of the average Joe- seems to spread like wildfire. Play your cards right, and you'll quickly gain a reputation as someone who shouldn't be trifled with… of course, while many are superstitious or cowardly, actually being able to back up your reputation doesn't hurt. You can toggle this on and off, though it won't remove information that's already out there. (200 CP)
Multiple-Choice Backstory- See, you're from this place called - no, wait, you took a chemical bath- no, you've been empowered by- actually, it's all technology- uh, you get the idea. It seems people will accept pretty much any explanation for why you have your abilities and equipment, and if you don't tell them they'll find their own explanations. More importantly, it's exceedingly unlikely that they'll
uncover the truth on their own, no matter what methods they use. (200 CP)
The Flying Jumper- Well, you might as well be flying; you're extremely acrobatic, and can somehow swing from building to building with a grappling hook without breaking your arm or tearing it out of its socket. You're also more than capable of using your dexterity in a fight, almost dancing between the blows of your
less skilled opponents. Maybe you learned this by watching Batman's sidekick? (200 CP, discount Bat-Family/Vigilante)
Disappearing Act- You're extremely good at staying unheard and unseen when you want to be, almost seeming to merge into the shadows and letting you get the drop on almost anyone. Your knowledge of stealth also allows you to pull off an unusual trick of Batman's; with almost preternatural skill, you're capable of finding
a hiding spot or rushing silently out of sight in the span of a few seconds; enough time that a person could be looking at you, turn away, and look back and not find a single trace of where you went. You also know how to reveal yourself in a way that gives the best effect. (200 CP, discount Bat-Family/Vigilante)
Martial Discipline- You've received training in many martial arts, from the ancient disciplines of Asia to more modern styles of combat. Training with so many masters and the refinement of your technique has elevated you to a level most martial artists never reach. You've mastered practically every martial art known to man, including armed and unarmed styles. (400 CP, discount Bat-family/VigiIante)
'Peak Human"- You've trained your body to the peak of human potential, and beyond; you're capable of leaping nearly 10 feet vertically, can open an elevator door with your bare hands, keep up with a run-away-bus, and can replicate and maybe even outmatch any Olympic feat an athlete has done.
You also have incredible control over your body's functions and are as flexible as humanly possible, and could survive being punched, thrown several feet, or even tossed through a wall by someone with superhuman strength. Needless to say, you have really good genes. (400 CPI discount Bat-family/Vigilante)
All-Star Training- Good training is the difference between you and everyone else; it helps that you learn and master new skills absurdly quick. When you dedicate yourself to learning a skill, you'll learn at a rate that's ten times faster than that of a normal human. You're also capable of sharing some of your capability to learn with others, training them to a point near your level much easier and faster than any other master. (600 CPI discount Bat-family/Vigilante)
Expertly Crafted Weapon- You have a weapon made with exceptional
craftsmanship, needing little maintenance to remain in peak condition. If you choose a projectile or throwing weapon, such as a gun or throwing stars, you will receive a supply of ammo or additional armaments weekly in the Warehouse. For an additional 100 CP your weapons are unusual in some way; your throwing stars might have tracking devices in them, or your staff might give off an electrical
charge for example. (50 CP)+100 for exceptional weapon (crocea mors)
Quick Change- You are somehow able to change into your costume in only a few seconds, even while wearing another set of clothes or if your costume is a heavy suit of armor. (50 CP)
Money- The only other green that Poison Ivy likes; you have one million dollars to do with as you please. Can be purchased multiple times; multiple purchases do not change the amount of money given by Jumper's Millions and Trust Fund, instead adding an additional one million to the total amount. (Buying both Jumper's Millions and Trust Fund and then an additional purchase of Money would give 101
million.) Money purchased with this option, Jumper's Millions, or Trust Fund does not restock, unless you buy Batman's Superpower. (50 CP)
Jumper's Millions- Thanks to someone generously bequeathing their fortune to you (for some reason), your earlier purchase of one million dollars is now ten million. Can be purchased once; requires at least one purchase of Money. (100 CP)
+ Trust Fund- And now it's actually one hundred million dollars; don't spend it all in one place. Can be purchased once; requires Jumper's Millions. (150 CP)
+Batman's Superpower- The problem with money is, once you spend it it's gone. That's still true, but now you'll at least get more bang for your buck, At the start of each Jump you'll get the equivalent in purchasing power of whatever amount of money you've purchased here in that setting's most common currency, be it gold, bottle caps, meat, or human souls. This currency won't arouse any suspicions as to where it came from, or why you have it. For an additional +100 CP you'll get a yearly allowance; for an additional +200 you'll get a monthly allowance. Requires at least one purchase of Money. (100/200/300 CP)
detriments:
Rogue Gallery- Sure, companions are all well and good, but haven't you ever wanted to see some familiar, unfriendly faces as well? A colorful collection of antagonists to act as the thorn in your side; people that test you?
Well, now you can; during your stay here, up to ten original heroes or villains (or anti-heroes or anti-villains or particularly aggressive neutral people or… well, you get the idea) will come about, with their own unique skills, gear, and/or powers. And, inevitably, they will come into conflict with you somehow. These rogues do not take up a
companion slot, and cannot be imported like companions are. If you do not want the Rogue Gallery to follow you, this will function like a drawback, its effects disappearing when your ten year stay is up. More details on the Rogue Gallery can be found in the Notes section. (+200 CP)
Past Tragedy- YOUR PARENTS ARE DEEEEAAAAAD! or something along those lines. Some event from your past haunts your every waking hour, be it watching helplessly as your parents were gunned down or something else equally as horrible.
While you'll be able to put your pain aside to get things done, your loss will constantly be a source of sorrow in your life
Who's Afraid Of the Big Black Bat?- Batman is incredibly suspicious of you, and will do his best to hinder your actions, believing you are a possible danger to the world; he is aware of all of your abilities, and has already prepped countermeasures to the ones that would keep him out of your hair. Engaging him will only confirm his suspicions in his eyes, and killing him will call down more heat than you can probably handle from his friends. You cannot be a member of the Bat- family if you have this drawback. (+200 CP)
Just A Man- If Batman can save the day without any powers, so can you; for the entirety of your stay here you will only have access to your purchases here, as well as your Body Mod purchases. (+300)
The Demon's Head- Ra's al Ghul, the leader of the Society of Shadows, believes that you are a threat to his plans for world. A master fighter and planner with over six centuries to grow his criminal organization, Ra's will send numerous assassins after you, and will devote all of the resources in his empire to taking you
out.
Attempting to kill Ra's will result in him not quite being dead- at least not to the point where a Lazarus pit can't fix him, which there always seems to be one more of, and attempting to dismantle his organization will be fruitless as his organization seemingly never dies, no matter how many you kill or how much you destroy. (+300)
jaune didn't hate huntsmen, in fact he had a lot of respect for people willing to fight against grimm and criminals for what seemed like minor rewards.
he just wished they'd stop involving him in their bullshit.
HE DOESN'T WANT TO FIGHT DAMN IT!
build under the cut, the actual short story will be posted later
Murderous Brawler: (400) "Surrounded by a dozen ships of the line, hundreds of pirates pouring onto your flagship, your crew dying in droves around you? You’ve never felt the blood pump harder in your ears nor moved with such lethal speed. They think they’re going to easily win but they don’t yet realise that the worse off you are, the deadlier you become.
Already, you’ve been made one of the most dangerous men or women on the seven seas with a blade or gun or both. Firing through a captain’s eye from half a mile away in the middle of a ship battle as a hurricane rages above? You barely had to aim.
Ten expert duelists surrounding you from all angles, as you wield naught but a short sword? They’ll be mewling on the ground, clutching fatal wounds in less than a minute!
The chaos of battle only benefits you, hardly hindering your awareness of your surroundings and revealing to you all the ways to take advantage.
Makeshift weapons leap out to your sight, the crush of crowded bodies limiting only your opponents agility and errant fire from surrounding battles is easy to misdirect into your enemy.
Most potent of all, you find yourself moving with greater power, speed and skill the worse the battle is going for your side. The greater you are disavantaged, the more damaging your own returning fire.
Both you and the ship you command find this benefit, allowing you to tear your way through overwhelming odds and escape, or even manage to win battles that by all rights you should have died miserably in.
A cornered pirate is no different than a cornered rat, they’re just at their nastiest and most violent point. "
Lord of War: (600) "In the end there is always one rule that holds true in worlds such as these might makes right.
Regardless of your position or talents, power in the end is the deciding factor when dealing with conflicts here.
This perk won’t increase your cultivation, but it will make you a true lord of war. You possess truly frightening combat prowess. Even if you only possessed an average technique you would easily be capable of fighting off and killing multiple beings a level higher than you.
Should you actually have the techniques and cultivation to back up your wrath then few if any in this world could stand against you in combat."
in this au jaune's semblance manifests as an uncanny ability to always win any fight he gets into. but he never notices. murderous brawler shifts the odds in his favor making him a match or even better than the dangers put against him, but it's his lord of war mixed with it that puts him well over the top of any enemy he faces all while staying within human bounds. to outside observers it looks like he's just that skilled in combat, but to jaune it's all bullshit luck and adrenaline.
jaune became a sailor after he left home, not wanting to deal with the dangers of being a huntsman sailing the world and getting some experience under his belt he returned to vale to visit family and maybe catch the vital festival in a few months. but his exploration of the big city ends with him wandering into a bar fight with yang and ruby's fight with roman. in both he aquits himself well in the eyes of the girls but jaune was mainly just scared out of his mind and trying to hit the guys so they stop trying to shoot him.
to the girls it looks like this veteran sailor is just calmly taking down enemies without effort. to jaune it's bullshit situations he's being dragged into without his consent that he's only just barely able to survive via bullshit luck. and he knows it can't last.
think caiaphis cain, or jackie chan. and as he keeps getting drawn into these situations he keeps winding up against more and more dangerous foes and no one belives him when he tells them he doesn't have aura or magic or anything like that!
he just wants to go back to the sea, things made sense there.
@heliosthegriffin @howlingday @weatherman667
this build can be used for any character obviously. or any setting. the only rule is that they have to have imposter syndrome about it.
so who will you have suffer from success? what character do you think would be fun to write an action comedy story about? and how would their existence effect the universe?
pretty simple idea here, jaune was born at the same time the entire debacal with salem and the brothers was going down. having been the rusted knight he was technically a god. and protected the people of remnant from the brothers via the use of his sacred relics from the ever after.
now every couple of generations a new Jaune is born into the world with no skills or knowledge but with the sacred relics to help deal with whatever bullshit the brothers are throwing at humanity this time.
i.e jaune is an avatar of his more divine rusted knight self.
build under the cut
All The King’s Horses: (100CP) A godly being like you deserves a godly steed to travel, and while you may possess an Authority to do so already, another item may prove useful in some cases. For that, this legendary mount is yours to use. Able to break the speed of sound easily while protecting all passengers and possessing a small but effective amount of firepower to defend you when you need it. The exact aesthetic depends on you, maybe you want a flying horse or a small dragon or a vimana. Regardless, the specs will be the same.
just as the rusted knight incarnates in remnant every once in a while so too does juniper his faithful steed. recent worship and legend paints it as a white horse so it will apear that way but the classic giant jackalope is also an option.
Fairy Weapon: (400CP) All of the Knights of the Round have their own special weapon. A magical sword, a enchanted bow, a special shield. These weapons are often crafted by the hands of the fairies themselves, creating immensely powerful weapons for the greatest protectors of Britain. Now you too have a legendary weapon in your hands, on the same level as things like Excalibur Galatine, Arondight or Lord Camelot. You might choose an enchanted sword that can unleash gigantic blasts of energy at will or a bow that fires a dozen shots for every single one you loose or even a flail that can command the wind as it slams into your foes. You could even have a magical prosthetic arm that unleashes blades and blasts of light on command."
crocea mors, a sword that can become a lance, it glows golden and increases all paramiters of the wielder to godlike proportions. (by two letter grades so if a E rank is 10 times peak human a normal human would be up to D rank which is 20.) including charisma and resistance to reality warping. (luck) it is also unbreakable.
Avalon: (400CP) "The legendary sheath of Excalibur, a copy of which now rests at your hip, though no one finds it strange that it does so. This sheath is an incredibly valuable artefact, as it bestows powerful
regenerative abilities on you while at your side, allowing you to heal from almost any wound in minutes at most. Even if most of your body was vaporised, as long as your brain and a fair amount of
the flesh and bone connected to it remained, you could restore yourself to normal in five minutes of healing. Avalon cannot heal brain wounds and you will die if it is destroyed, though the item also
struggles to handle cursed wounds. Though it drains your energy, you can also activate the special power of the sheath, which will place you in the world of Avalon while you maintain it. While here, it
is almost impossible to reach you and even dimension crossing effects will only work from insanely powerful users. Effectively, it lets you dodge away out of almost any effect in an instant. Notably, Avalon as a sheath will resize to fit any sword you wish to put into it."
Avalon representing the afterlife the rusted knight has made for humanity in the ever after to be with their families and loved ones. that being said eventually everyone sees the tree and reincarnates.
Battle Garments: (100CP) Having to battle creatures from myth and legend as your job is no excuse to not look fashionable while doing so. This is a set of clothes that fit you perfectly, are fashionable, flexible, self-repairing and strong as enchanted steel armor. Because if you’re going to kick ass, then do it in style.
sometimes appearing as actual armor sometimes as simple clothes the avatar of the rusted knight relies on his armor for much of his defense.
one thing of note, this jaune does not have ANY skill with the items he has with him. they tend to carry him through most of his battles early on. he always needs to be trained by the heroes of the current generation.
so when jaune meets ruby rose on her way to exterminate some grimm she finds a very uncordinated man in a really nice pair of jeans and a hoodie with a bunny on it. just doing his best here.
being mortal is tough man.
basically he's the god of heroes on earth but he has no idea what he's doing. since he's got no powers he can work anywhere but this was just an excuse to show off stained glass jaune arc @weatherman667 @howlingday thoughts on the art?
simply put it's jaune but instead of being based on joan of arc he's based on the nameless knights of fairytales and arthuriana.
he'll work in any au, basic idea is he's a really good knight but he's got no idea what's going on in the deeper plot, he's just interested in being a really good knight and helping people then leaving to help others.
dude's got knight autism.
this can also work for characters like pyrrha or ruby.
Peerless: (800CP) The knights of Britain are renown for their skill, power and honour. The knights of the Round Table exemplify Britain’s virtues to an even greater extent. You? Lancelot at his height is the only one you can call a peer and he doesn’t remain there for long. Few men are as perfectly well rounded as you. Your physical abilities are enough that you could fight powerful adult dragons and demons to a draw with your bare hands or even win if you added a good weapon to your side. You’ve got unbelievable levels of martial skill in both offense and defense, across two dozen kinds of weapons, such that even without your physical abilities being so great you could slay armies. You have strategic and tactical abilities that let you lead small forces to crush far larger ones and can even make a good substitute for a king if your liege needs to spend a few months away at war, though you are far below the sort of king that can create a golden age. You have a high level of natural talent at any skill or ability you try your hand at and find it very easy to learn and train to become better at new things, quickly surpassing even the most venerable of warriors in their specialties. Of course, you would not be peerless if you did not also look the part. Among all the men in the world, only the divine could outmatch your physical splendour and even then, only by a touch. Your king might frown on the hordes of maidens that lust after you but you really can’t help it, as you gather admirers and love interests even when fully armoured and masked. Just something about you.
Mysterious: (100CP) "Enigmatic, mysterious, people stop to stare and have no idea why. There's just something strange, different about you, at least after you get your hands on this perk.
Upon purchase, you gain an air of mystery that makes others curious and questioning about you, like there's always another layer to your character or something buried further down that you're hiding.
You also become good at maintaining it.
If you act up front and casual, then people just might be a bit curious about you. If you really go all in on being mysterious, you may develop into a kind of small urban legend or have a profile in some
intelligence gathering agencies."
Can’t Read My: (100CP) You got one hell of a poker face. You could be having a mind shattering meltdown while appearing outwardly as perfectly composed and well mannered to the extent even the Cloudy Sword Sect would be impressed.
This is also somehow genetic, meaning your kids will be equally as good at containing their inner freakouts behind a face of serenity.
the basic idea is taking the mysterious badass and turning it on it's head. the person with these powers can't be read in any way, can't be predicted as a result. and has the skills and physical abilities to always win no matter what situation they end up in!
... they just havn't been paying attention and have no idea that they've been foiling the same bad guy's plans for the last six months and now secret relics are getting involved and magic is real I guess and why the fuck is this all spiraling out of control?
what the fuck even is aura!?!?
also why is everyone coming onto them? they just wanna save people from evil is that too much to ask?
whichever character you make the autism knight will gain unfathomable abilities but at the cost of forever not knowing what's going on and everyone assuming it was all going to their keikaku (keikaku means plan)
thoughts on which character you'd make the autism knight? it can be from any media it's a very versatile character.
@howlingday @weatherman667
@heliosthegriffin why does this feel like the shadow knight if he was OP instead of barely scrapping by? like in an au where jaune had amazing abilities from the beginning he just never bothered to look deeper into things and kept saving the day never knowing that he was becoming enemy number 1 for the forces of evil.
see the issue is making a character who's martially minded is that you feel the need to use metal even when you're in a modern era and no armor is gonna stop a bullet, unless it's magic.
but then i remembered that tabards exist, so the new costume of the mercenary is compression gear with a tabard and a helmet thrown over it, potentially some bracers or puldrins.
the hemet is mainly just to hide his identity and prevent someone from bonking him over the head when he's not paying attention.
sword will look the same.
i also gave him a heraldry a sword with wings, and decided to replace one of his skills with a an ability to identify opertunities when they appear rather than focus on countering his own abilities.
replaced powers will be under the cut, but mainly just asking what you think of the new look
original power
Guarded Shadows
Ninja don’t only work as a sword to wield against one’s enemies, they also act as a shield from their own kind.
You are able to easily turn the shinobi arts towards protecting others and defending locations. Your skill in concealing your own presence becomes skill at detecting others who haveconcealed themselves, assassination talent lets you figure out how to defend fromassassins, knowledge of poisoning teaches you how to check for and counteract it.
Your dark and taboo skills of all different kinds quickly result in you learning the opposing defence to them.
While only those skills related to being a ninja are this easy, this perk does also make it much easier for you to come upwith counters to specific techniques that you have learned, such as how to defend against your ownfavourite combat jutsu.
new power
Little Noble
Born with a silver spoon, your life was set out for you before you took your first step in the outside world.
A noble upbringing has many benefits to go along with the restrictions of status.
Extensive training in making your way through courtly life, handling etiquette and your future vassals.
Some experience watching and learning from the great masters of war and combat, leaving you a capable but unremarkable leader in battle and user of the sword.
But while your abilities may seem unremarkable, you have the uncanny ability to notice when a chance arises to make a lucky break.
Seeing the gaps in enemy lines through the smoke, noticing a particular courtier feeling down orunwell beneath the subterfuge, even realising when someone might be lying to you.
It’s not often, but you’ll know when you see it, giving you a chance to rise above slightly humble beginnings to take real power.
new change is more for characterisation, instead of being able to counter subterfuge and his own tactics he's now instead able to notice those little coalesences of fate that will tip the balance in his favor, as well as a little bit more formal training pushing the base skill floor up just a little bit more at the begining of the story.
he knows how to rub elbows with the high and mighty and how to apeal to warriors as a fellow manslayer. he brings out the best in people and knows how to play the media. and he's always on the look out for those little chances that will let him rise in the world.
this version of the mercenary comes off as a little bit more hungry, ready and willing to rise to the top.
@weatherman667
@howlingday
what are your thoughts on the new look? and any issues with the power swap?
bonus: updated picture of his sword, True Steel or Dur gwir
