── cade had never particularly believed in luck. he found it lazy, waiting around for some kind of good fortune to organically come, preferring to go out and find it himself. yet learning that noor lohani lived in his building felt enormously and inexplicably fortunate, and he’d nearly fallen over himself to follow the new opportunity. he’d seen her a few times around the hallways before, and had given himself plenty of grief over the past days over not identifying her sooner, only putting together his vague recognition upon finally hearing her last name. immediately he’d wanted to come chasing after her, though knew better than to let impulse take over, instead choosing to hang back for a time to plan himself out.
getting in a lohani’s good graces seemed like a fantasy, their name as a kind of password into the circles he could only dream of. her father was the exact breed of embarrassingly wealthy that cade wanted on his roster. the chance had, somehow, been presented to him on a silver platter, noor only a few floors beneath him, and cade wasn’t about to squander it. pausing after knocking on the door to her apartment, he took a quick moment to correct himself, tie slightly loosened and top button undone as if it were all casual and happenstance. his sudden luck had continued when he’d learned her apartment was the very first to come across on the bottom floor, a built-in excuse for his presence as if he’d stumbled to her door accidentally.
he grinned when the door opened, half apologetic, running a hand through his hair like he was trying to make himself presentable. “i’m terribly sorry for the interruption,” every bit of constructed politeness he’d learned came to the surface, tone as charming as he could make it, “my name’s cade english, i live up on the fifth floor. apparently i got a bit overenthusiastic coming home today as i’ve locked myself out of my car--- which has my keys and my phone still in it. is there any way i could come in and borrow your phone ? i can’t exactly get up to my apartment like this.”
